Observations:
June 2015 – After being signed by Edmonton, then having that contract revoked, then playing in the QMJHL at one and a half points per game, Tkachev once again went undrafted. Maybe he will attend Edmonton's camp again. Austin Wallace
June 2014 – Likely due to size and his Russian background, Vladimir Tkachev was not selected at the 2014 NHL Draft. He will be eligible for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Brendan Ross
May 2014 – Vladimir Tkachev (also, Tkachyov) has some serious red flags because he is both Russian and very small. He helped ease the fleeing Russian concerns by venturing across the pond to join Moncton of the QMJHL midseason but his 5-foot-8 height is a legitimate worry. In his QMJHL debut, Tkachev rallied off four points (see video below). Tkachev is an uber-skilled winger with magician-like puck skills and an imaginative offensive mind. His possession skills are strong showcasing both poise and patience but his biggest asset is his speedy skating ability. His production in the Quebec league and performance at the Subway Super Series (see video below) were both noteworthy and caught the attention of NHL scouts. Brendan Ross
Tkachev is a true wildcard prospect but if provided with an opportunity to succeed and reach his upside, he could develop into a dangerously offensive top-six winger. Otherwise, it’s likely back to Russia.
