Observations:
November 2014 – Despite being called up to the Blackhawks to be a ‘Black Ace’ for their playoff run last spring, Carruth has opened the season as the backup for the Indy Fuel of the ECHL. Not only is this his third ECHL team in two years, but he wasn’t able to make the leap to Rockford this season despite the departure of fellow goalie prospect Kent Simpson in the offseason. A seventh rounder in 2010, Carruth’s window to ever make an NHL impact appears to be closing. Matt Donohue
June 2014 – Carruth wrapped up the 2013-14 season playing for the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. His first professional season was marred by inconsistency and overall unimpressive numbers. As a seventh rounder, he is a longshot to ever make an impact at the NHL level and his inability to stick in the AHL this year certainly doesn’t help his chances. With the emergence of Antti Raanta and Kent Simpson finishing the season as Rockford’s starter, the future for Carruth looks bleak heading into 2014-15. Matt Donohue
January 2014 – Carruth has bounced around in his rookie pro season in the ‘E’ and the ‘A’. He is currently playing behind veteran Hannu Toivonen after the Hawks picked up Jason Labarbera as insurance. Carruth was rather impressive to watch in the rookie camp tournament and seemed very economical in his movements and has excellent intensity. The Hawks are going to keep him where he will receive the most playing time, even if it is limited at this point. Jason Banks
March 2013 – A career season, but it's at the junior level as an over-ager. Transitioning this kind of success to the AHL is a must…still several years away. Dobber
June 2012 – After building up a solid junior resume, Carruth was signed to an Entry-Level deal. He was a big part of the Portland Winterhawks squad that made it to two straight WHL Finals. This past year he recorded a 42-17-2-0 record with a 2.96 GAA and a 0.904 SV%. Carruth is a solid all-around goalie with good athleticism. He has good size and will need to work on his consistency to continue his success at the next level. Zenon Herasymiuk
Four years after being a late rounder, he hasn't even been able to make an impact at the AHL level. Unlikely to ever make an impact at the NHL level.
