Fantasy Summary

Bailey owns good offensive skills and can score in bunches. Likely just a depth option at this point.

July 2021 – Bailey has re-signed with the Canucks and will continue his depth role within the organization. The 26-year-old saw just three games during the 2020-21 season, as he spent his time nursing injury. His speed and high-end motor continue to bring great intangibles when inserted into the line-up. Dave Hall

March 2020 – Coming over from the Flyers’ system, the 24-year-old immediately became a front-line offensive threat for the Utica Comets. There was a spell of games where he couldn’t miss. His 28 goals and 47 points in 53 AHL games were second and third respectively on the squad. He even earned a two-game call-up with the Canucks although he didn’t see much action – averaging just five minutes per. Bailey is an impending RFA this summer. Cam Robinson

July 2019 – Bailey has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Canucks.  Jokke Nevalainen

June 2019 – Bailey did not get a qualifying offer from the Flyers which means he becomes an unrestricted free agent.  Jokke Nevalainen

March 2019 – After just seeing action in one NHL game in his most recent call-up, Bailey has been returned to Lehigh Valley of the AHL. He has power-forward upside however he is still a way’s away from adequately filling the shoes of the recently departed Wayne Simmonds. Staying down may be what’s best for him at this stage in his development as 8:25 is the high-water mark for time on ice with the Flyers this season. Offensive consistency should be his chief area of focus at this time. Edric Joseph

February 2019 – Bailey has been traded from Buffalo to Philadelphia.  Jokke Nevalainen

February 2018 – In his third professional season, Bailey spent a month early on in the season with the Sabres where he suited up for seven games scoring twice and added an assist. He was assigned to the minors mid-November and has since battled an ankle injury which has limited him to just 25 games but has decently productive with five goals and four helpers. Brad Phillips

January 2017 – Justin Bailey had an incredible month of January. After scoring his first NHL goal against Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers, Justin was a late addition to the AHL All-Star game along with teammates Linus Ullmark and Cole Schneider. His seven-game goal streak dating back to December 17th carried into January and ended on the 22nd. Max Marko

December 2016 – Justin Bailey really impressed fans and coaches during his short stint in the NHL last year while he was filling in due to injuries. After seeing his impressive skill and work ethic, The Sabres are taking a more cautious route with Bailey this year, as not to introduce him to the NHL too quickly. Although Bailey has received another recall this year, it was a very short two-game stint. With the Amerks, Bailey will focus on skating and strength in order to become NHL ready by the end of the year. So far, Bailey is just about on pace for similar point production that he had last year with the Amerks. Seven goals, six assists through 21 games. Max Marko

February 2016 – Bailey was finally noticed and was recalled by the Sabres on February 10th, he played four games without recording a single point. On February 18th Bailey was assigned back to the Amerks, he recorded three assists in his second game back in the AHL. Bailey will look to continue to produce at the AHL level to get his next shot with the Sabres.

February 2016 – Bailey may be showing a little bit of jealousy. Amerks teammates are getting recalled and he is staying in the AHL. He is starting to produce at a regular rate, since January 18th, he has five goals, six assists for 11 points in eight games played. He has put his name on the score-sheet in seven of those eight games. Bailey is finding chemistry playing with Tim Schaller and William Carrier, maybe he’s hoping he will get noticed by the big club and make his NHL debut before the end of the season. – Paul Zwambag

September 2015 – Justin Bailey skated in the bottom-six of the lineup for the two games he played this preseason. He was only able to get on the game sheet with his two penalty minutes and one shot. He had over 14 minutes of ice time per game. He played both Prospect Challenge games and was able to find the back of the net. Bailey will be playing his first professional season with the Rochester Americans and will probably play on the top line. The Sabres hope he will develop into a power forward to fit on one of the first two lines in two to three years. Paul Zwambag

March 2015 – The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds appear to have one of their star acquisitions from the 2015 trade deadline on the verge of a return. Justin Bailey has been out for nearly a month with a fracture in his ankle and heel and is looking to get his feet back under him with only two games remaining on the 2015 slate. The Greyhounds are deadlocked at 106 points with the powerhouse Oshawa Generals and have home ice advantage to play for with two games to go so it’s a welcoming sign to see the team finally returning to near full health. There hasn’t been many games since the deadline you can say the Greyhounds have iced a full lineup. With championship aspirations they’ll need everyone up to speed and fully healthy as it will be a battle alone to just get out of the Western Conference with a likely future date against the offensive juggernaut Connor McDavid and his Erie Otters. Hopefully Bailey can return to his pre-injury form which saw him find the scoresheet often including four multi-goal games, 12 total and two of the game winning variety in just 20 games. Travis Watson

January 2015 – Bailey’s days in Kitchener are over as he was dealt to the Soo Greyhounds for David Miller and a horde of draft picks. The draft picks are a 2015 2nd rd pick, 2015 3rd rd pick, 2018 2nd rd pick and a conditional 2018 3rd rd pick if Bailey plays his overage season which is a possibility but unlikely with him already signing a three-year entry-level deal with the Sabres. Bailey actually had a no-trade clause, but he was willing to waive it for an opportunity at a OHL Championship and possible Memorial Cup opportunity while also understanding that this was a good hockey move for the only team he had known. Bailey leaves the Rangers as their top scorer this season with 22 goals and 41 points in 35 games played and has already opened up with a bang for his new team scoring the game winner in a 6-5 victory of the lowly Sudbury Wolves. His two goal and one assist performance in his first game are going to have Greyhounds fans salivating with the arrival of fellow OHL stars Nick Ritchie and Anthony DeAngelo expected on Friday January 9th. The Soo are definitely a big-time contender now if they weren’t already and they will need many more games like Bailey’s first if they want to win their first OHL Championship since 1992 and Memorial Cup since 1993. Travis Watson

April 2014 – Justin Bailey saw some statistical improvements despite the trying season they had in Kitchener. Bailey improved his goals and points totals setting new career highs along the way. He finished the year with 25 goals, 18 assists and 43 points which were eight goals and seven points higher than his 2012-13 campaign. Bailey finished the year strong with six goals in his last seven games and will look to carry that momentum into the 2014-15 season where he and the rebuilding Rangers will be looking for some improvements. Travis Watson

July 2013 – The Buffalo Sabres were the team that Justin Bailey grew up watching and idolizing. Now Justin is a part of that Buffalo Sabres organization after his hometown team drafted him in the second round, 52nd overall. The Sabres will be looking for Bailey to show more consistency and offensive prowess in the 2013-14 season back in Kitchener but before that he will be heading to Buffalo’s development camp from July 10-12th. Bailey should be given a larger role in Kitchener this season as they lose some of their players moving on to professional careers. Travis Watson

June 2013 – Growing up in Buffalo in the same apartment as Sabres Matt Barnaby and Mike Peca, Justin Bailey learned quickly to love the game of hockey. Bailey has battled injuries for most of his time in Kitchener but when he is in the lineup, he shows flashes of offensive dominance. Blessed with good size, a lethal shot and good offensive instincts, Bailey owns tantalizing top line upside. His shot release is among the best in the draft class and his ability to handle the puck at top speed makes him a dangerous one-on-one attacker. Bailey enjoys banging his body around and as a result, he should contribute modest penalty minute totals. From a technical standpoint, Bailey’s stride leaves much to be desired but he gets around the rink well enough and owns good top speed. In 57 games with the Kitchener Rangers, Justin Bailey tallied 17 goals and 36 points but look for him to increase the number substantially in 2013-14. Brendan Ross
