October 2019 – Khokhlachev has returned to Spartak Moskva for the 2019-2020 campaign. The clock continues to tick towards Khokhlachev’s UFA status, which would be July 1, 2021. The Bruins have a crowded group of skilled forwards, which makes an NHL return more likely to happen outside of Boston if KoKo decides to come back. Chris Mazza
April 2019 – Khokhlachev finished his KHL season with 18 goals and 37 points in 54 games, while chipping in a single assist through six playoff games in a first round exit for Spartak Moskva. His production remains largely in line with that of seasons past, as he continues to show his offensive abilities in every league outside the NHL. It is important to note that the 25-year-old decided to sign a one year deal with Spartak prior to last season, opening the door for a potential Bruins reunion next season. Chris Mazza
October 2018 – Despite rumours that Khokhlachev was looking at an NHL return to play for Boston this season, he chose to re-sign with the KHL’s Spartak Moscow for at least one more season. The 25-year-old possesses plenty of talent and would certainly offer an offensive boost to most NHL teams, however it appears unlikely that a reunion with the Bruins will ever come to fruition. He could remain under team control for at least a few more seasons and once he turns 27 he will be eligible to return to return as a UFA free to sign with any team in the league. Chris Mazza
February 2018 – Don’t close the door on Khokhlachev just yet. The creative dynamic centre is having a near point per game year in the KHL. If he can stay on his current pace a top five finish for points in the KHL is realistic on a team that’s low in the standings, and t’s hard to think the Bruins brass haven’t been keeping an eye on the former second rounder. Khokhlachev had a great deal of success under Bruce Cassidy in Providence in the past, and with the Bruins trending towards more speed and skill; a fast, creative and proven finisher like AK could get another look. The Bruins still retain his rights and he has not yet signed an extension with his club in Spartak. There were rumours in the fall that he is considering a return to Boston for the 2018/2019 season citing comfort and trust in the new coach. He’s worth keeping as a sleeper prospect on your fantasy team. Sid Osmond
June 2017 – Khokhlachev seems like a bit of an afterthought right now for the Bruins organization, however, the club still owns his rights going into the 2017 season. This is relevant because the Khokhlachev was at one time a highly touted prospect for the Bruins, but was lost in the organizational depth chart. In theory, the rights to Khokhlachev could be a piece that the Los Vegas Golden Knights have their eye on for this upcoming expansion draft, but the 11 total points he mustered in the KHL shouldn’t be overly attractive for the potential suitor. Mike Drover
June 2016 – Alex Khokhlachev is heading to Russia to join SKA St. Petersburg. Confirmation on his status for the upcoming season is expected after June 30th when Khokhlachev’s current entry level contract is set to expire. Fourth in AHL scoring, the young, skilled centerman felt as though he was never given a fair opportunity with the big club. Formerly selected 40th overall in the 2011 entry draft, Khokhlachev led the Providence Bruins last season with 68 points in just 60 games. Michael Drover
December 2015 – Khokhlachev has been recalled by the Bruins to replace Zac Rinaldo in the lineup. Khokhlachev has 20 points in 17 games with Providence, and is excited by the chance to show he belongs in Boston. He likely won’t get a lot of ice time to start with but that may change if he starts off well. Keep him on your radar. Michael Boeckler
November 2015 – Khokhlachev looks like he will have another solid year in Providence – he already has 13 points (including four goals) in his first 10 games. Khokhlachev has apparently started getting impatient with the Bruins, telling reporters that, at 22, he deserves a spot in Boston. The Bruins, meanwhile, insist he needs more seasoning in the AHL. This is the final year of Khokhlachev’s current contract, so look for him to end up in Boston soon or on the trading block, where surely another team would pony up for the potential star. Michael Boeckler
January 2015 – Khokhlachev has been selected to play in this year’s AHL All-Star Classic. The 21-year-old has had a strong if unspectacular season thus far with the P-Bruins, tallying 25 points in 27 games – good for second in team scoring behind only David Pastrnak. Michael Boeckler
April 2014 – Khokhlachev was named the American Hockey League’s rookie of the month for March. In 12 games he amassed 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points. Now the team’s leading scorer, Khokhlachev has exceeded all expectations this year and will likely be given a long look at next year’s training camp. Michael Boeckler
December 2013 – KoKo has had an excellent season in the AHL with Providence compiling 17 points in 23 games. If Boston wasn’t so damn deep he would surely be utilizing his explosive speed on the Bruins. He was almost traded last season to Calgary for Jarome Iginla in a deal that was leaked but was not official. As it stands now he will continue to work it in the AHL this season, then compete for a roster spot next camp as the Bruins have only 10 projected forwards signed for next season. While the Bruins are not in need of new blood, they will be looking to allow homegrown talent to succeed the way Soderberg and Spooner have this season and Khoklachev would add a slippery dimension that the Bruins do not currently have. That said Peter Chiarelli wants to win again, and KoKo could be an attractive piece to dangle once again at the deadline in order to pull on another big depth piece for a Boston run. If I was an owner of him, I would be more attracted to waiting for his opportunity with the large and successful potential line mates in Boston than him being fast tracked in another organization. Jason Banks
October 2012 – Alexander Khokhlachev was named to the 2012 Subway Super Series Team OHL Russia Roster slated to compete in a six-game series versus all-star teams from the Canadian Hockey League in November. Brendan Ross
July 2012 – ‘KoKo’ has recently signed his three year entry-level contract with Boston. He has also recently signed with Spartak Moskva of the KHL. Look at this as a positive move to Russia, he was destine to return to junior as he is not of age to turn pro in the AHL and would not crack the Bruins roster. Playing for Spartak he will be playing with grown men, develop a stronger game and be fed information from former NHL prospects Branko Radjivojevic, Stefan Ruzicka and Shoan Morrison. Jason Banks
February, 2012 –The Windsor Spitfires stole Alexander Khokhlachev as he fell to 23rd overall in the 2010 CHL Import Draft due to the uncertainty of whether he would report to North America. The undersized shifty Khokhlachev slipped to the Boston Bruins at 40th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft as well and he is showing to become a very valuable pick. “Ko-Ko” as he has been dubbed has adapted extremely well to the North American game notching 76 points as a rookie and added another 20 playoff points in just 18 playoff contests. Khokhlachev is a great skater with imposing speed and with his slick surgeon-like stickhandling skills he is incredibly difficult to contain one-on-one. The Windsor Spitfires leading scoring displays good defensive instincts as well often earning valuable penalty kill ice time as well. The dynamic Khokhlachev is a passionate player who does not shy away from contact and goes to all areas of the rink to score or setup his teammates. Brendan Ross
