Fantasy Summary

He hangs around the net a lot and puts home whatever he finds, plus he has a shot that can beat an NHL goalie from mid-range. He has to prove he can play in the NHL.

Observations

July 2021 – Dal Colle was not tendered a qualifying offer, meaning he becomes a UFA. The former first-round pick is not likely to be re-signed by the Isles. Mark Allan

July 2021 – It would not be surprising if the 25-year-old former first-round pick and current RFA is soon with a different NHL franchise. Mark Allan

April 2021 – Dal Colle was activated after missing eight games with a lower-body injury, although he’s not likely to get icetime after the additions of Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac. That won’t help the 24-year-old pending RFA earn a new contract. Reduced to an insurance role and with lacklustre stats across the board, the former fifth-overall draft pick is at a crossroads with the organization. Mark Allan

February 2021 – Dal Colle had his first NHL multi-point game (two assists) and his first points of the season in a 4-3 triumph over the Penguins. He followed with a pointless effort and just 11:01 on the ice in a 2-0 win over the Rangers in spite of playing with Brock Nelson. An RFA after the current campaign, he needs to impress consistently. Mark Allan

September 2020 – Dal Colle played in his second straight series-clincher by an identical 4-0 score, this time over the Flyers. He contributed two shots on goal and five hits, although his 17 shifts and 10:42 of ice time were team lows. That underscores the former fifth-overall draft pick’s role as a depth forward. The emergence of Ross Johnston as a legitimate NHL bottom-sixer and the looming presence of Kieffer Bellows might mean Dal Colle increasingly plays in the AHL in the final year of his current contract. Mark Allan

August 2020 – With Cal Clutterbuck hurt, Barry Trotz gave Dal Colle 16 shifts and 9:22 of ice time in a series-clinching 4-0 victory over the Capitals. In addition to blocking a shot, the LW contributed three hits as the Isles outhit ground-down Washington 46-34. The 24-year-old former first-rounder has one more campaign at a $700,000 AAV. He is at this point a bottom-six NHLer at best. Mark Allan

August 2020 – Although he’s on the 30-man, post-season roster, that’s the closest Dal Colle will come to getting into a game unless injuries take out some of his teammates. The NYIs are throttling Washington 3-0 in their best-of-seven series and coach Barry Trotz seems content to stick with the veterans who are getting the job done. Mark Allan

July 2020 – Dal Colle was unsurprisingly one of 17 forwards named to the post-season roster. The former fifth-overall draft pick has become an uninspiring depth player in the team’s defense-first system. Mark Allan

July 2020 – Dal Colle is in Group One at training camp with fellow LWs Anders Lee and Andrew Ladd. Group One blanked Group Two 2-0 in the first scrimmage of training camp. Mark Allan

May 2020 – When NHL play resumes, the former fifth-overall pick will be at best in the bottom six. After 53 games, all in the NHL this season, he had just four goals and six assists. However, he’s proving useful in the defensive style favoured by head coach Barry Trotz. Getting most of his playing time replacing Matt Martin on the dependable fourth line, the 6-3, 205-pound Dal Colle has averaged an uninspiring 11:48 on ice. He’s vulnerable in the Islanders’ crowd of grinding wingers, although he has one more campaign with a lowly $700,000 AAV. Just don’t acquire him expecting the offense of a first-round pick. Mark Allan

February 2020 – The good news for the 23-year-old former fifth-overall pick is that he’s in the NHL, with 79 big-league games on his resumé. The bad news is that he has just seven goals and 10 assists in an Islander uniform. At 6-3 and 205 pounds, the former junior power forward could have a long NHL career, but it might be in the bottom six. He’ll be with the Islanders until he produces more or they replace him with someone better. He has one more season with a $700,000 AAV, which is why the Isles can afford to keep him on their roster. Mark Allan

January 2020 – Michael Dal Colle’s value has steadily dropped this season due to lack of ice time with the Islanders, and inability to score consistently. He has only tallied a pair of goals plus five assists for seven points in 35 games with the big club. He’s averaged only 11:41 minutes per game and could very well be traded as part of a bigger package at the trade deadline. Naftali Clinton

August 2019 – Dal Colle has signed a two-year contract with the Islanders. His leap forward last season was rewarded. However, the 23-year-old is no longer eligible to pass up and down without waivers, it will be put up or shut up time for the former OHL star. Cam Robinson

April 2019 – Dal Colle appears to have finally taken a step forward. The former fifth overall selection went from being an AHL depth player to a front-line talent in Bridgeport. His point-per-game in 34 AHL contests is a welcomed sight. He held his own in 28 NHL contests recording seven points. He started on the fourth line, but by the end of the season was getting a turn on the second line for stretches. In order to maximize his value, Dal Colle needs to be shooting the puck a lot more. Something that is affected by his footspeed. He’ll need to find another gear if he wants a shot at being an everyday player. Cam Robinson

June 2018 – For a player that could really use a puck-carrying, playmaking center, Dal Colle was really hard up for luck this season in Bridgeport. His stat line dipped to just seven goals and 24 points in 60 games with a minus-14 rating. His skating is a major flaw and his place in the organization is in jeopardy. Coming up on the last year of his entry-level contract with a major change of the guard on Long Island, it wouldn’t be surprising to see both parties get a fresh start over the summer. Otherwise, Dal Colle’s skating will hold back his terrific shot from being effective at the NHL level. Fantasy owners would have been wise to cash out already, those who can sell him on his draft stock still ought to do so.  Michael Farkas

June 2017 – With his first full professional season under his belt, it still remains a bit of mystery as to what the Islanders have in Michael Dal Colle. He collected 41 points in 75 games for Bridgeport (AHL). He is a natural finisher with a great shot; however, the Sound Tigers roster is weak at center – which hurts Dal Colle’s ability to do his thing. As most young players are, he was shuffled around the lineup a bit but was used down low on the power play a fair amount. He definitely has the shot and the goal-scoring instincts to be a quality scoring threat. The largely unexcitable winger plays a game similar to that of James van Riemsdyk. His biggest weakness is skating: straight-legged, poor on his edges and seems almost unable to cross-over. It needs a lot of work to become NHL caliber. Michael Farkas

November 2016 –  As with any fifth overall pick, the expectations are very high for Dal Colle. He has the size to be an everyday NHL player and for a player with his frame he skates well and has great offensive and goal scoring attributes. Unfortunately for Dal Colle he was not given a roster spot out of training camp with the Islanders, and was released earlier than maybe expected. Nevertheless, Dal Colle, who is entering his first year in Pro, will not be hurt by this decision and he will be playing at the necessary level where he can exceed and play his game to develop into the player the Islanders hope he will. Many Dal Colle owners may be frustrated with the appearance of him being jumped in the organization by Beauvillier or Barzal, but don’t sleep on MDC – so far with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers he has five goals in 10 games which leads all rookies in the AHL. The future is still bright for Dal Colle, and it won’t be unreasonable to think he may end up on John Tavares’ wing one day. Dal Colle projects to be a scoring winger with great size and a nose for the net. Fantasy owners should be happy with the long term outlook.  Kevin Pedersen

July 2016 – 2015-16 was truly a tale of two seasons for Michael Dal Colle. In the first half with the Oshawa Generals, he managed only eight goals and 25 points in 30 games played. To cap off 2015, he was an early cut from Team Canada’s World Junior squad. However, on January 1, 2016, Dal Colle was traded to Kingston, where he exploded. He put up 33 goals and 73 points in 39 total games for the high flying Frontenacs. Dal Colle finished the year ninth in the OHL in shots on goal, tenth in even strength primary points, and eleventh in total primary points. Still, the year feels like somewhat of a disappointment for a guy who was a fifth overall pick two years ago. In fact, Dal Colle registered a worse points-per-game average in 2015-16 than he did in his draft eligible campaign. There’s no reason for his owners to panic, but now may be a good time to sell high while his draft position is fresh in your leaguemates’ memories. Brent Craswell

February 2016 – In 14 games since being traded to Kingston Dal Colle has put up 31 points. Needless to say he needed a change of scenery and has since taken off. Pat Quinn

January 2016 – After being traded from Oshawa, putting up a disappointing 25 points in 30 games, Dal Cole scored eight points in his only two games for the Kingston Frontenacs so far. It is safe to say he is liking his new team, and hopefully that leads to him putting up the kind of point totals we expect. Pat Quinn

December 2015 – Dal Colle was cut from team Canada’s World Junior roster on the second day of camp where he was expected to be a top player. His play over the two day training camp was disappointing on many accounts and added to his poor season. He currently sits 68th in OHL scoring, and considering he should be at least top ten at this stage his play is slightly worrisome. There is still a bright future for Dal Colle in the pros but he really needs to step up his game as an overager in the OHL. Pat Quinn

Nov 2015 – Dal Colle is having a disappointing start to the season for the Oshawa Generals, likely still disappointed by his demotion for the Islanders. He has 13 points in 16 games, which for an over-ager and the lofty expectations put on Dal Colle it is not impressive to see. He will rebound though as he is just too good to be below a point per game for long, not to mention he is the captain of the Generals this year, so perhaps he is focusing on leadership and two-way play instead of scoring. Still a must own in keeper leagues and that should not change. Pat Quinn

Oct 2015 – Dal Colle was sent back to Junior for his final year early in Islanders camp. He did not do enough to stand out at camp and was sent to the OHL rather early. He will dominate in his final year and see AHL time before his season is up. He may play a final game for the Islanders but as for right now expect him in the NHL next season, with a chance of a brief AHL stint first. Pat Quinn

April 2015 – Dal Colle finished his third OHL season with 93 points, 42 of them goals, in 56 games. It was the third year in a row he upped his points per game and he finished the year with the most amount of goals he has scored in the OHL. So far in the playoffs he has three goals in three games for the Oshawa Generals. He remains one to watch for the Islanders and if you can get him in a keeper pool don’t let him go. Pat Quinn

October 2014 – Oshawa forward Michael Dal Colle has been named to the OHL’s roster for the upcoming Subway® Super Series and will compete in both games on November 13th and 17th in Peterborough and Kingston, respectively. Since being returned to Oshawa, Michael Dal Colle has racked up five goals and 12 points in his first seven games, including five multi-point contests. Brendan Ross

September 2014 – Dal Colle lined up on Ryan Strome’s left wing to kick off Isles rookie camp. He is quite possibly the heir apparent to John Tavares’ left side but whether that happens now or a year or two down the road remains to be seen, “I want to be a big part of this team in the future and make a good impression, and that’s what I’m trying to do.” The youngster roomed with Strome over the summer and continues to bunk with the talented center. The Isles will hope Strome can ease Dal Colle into professional hockey with some of the experience he picked up last year. Brad Wilson

June 2014 – The New York Islanders draft Michael Dal Colle 5th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Brendan Ross

May 2014 –Michael Dal Colle was named to the OHL’s 2nd All-Star Team joining Connor McDavid, Scott Kosmachuk, Adam Pelech, Nikita Zadorov and Matt Murray. Dal Colle finished the 2013-14 season as the top scoring NHL Draft eligible OHLer tallying 39 goals and 95 regular season points. Brendan Ross

January 2014 – Heading into weekend action as of January 24th, Generals’ forward Michael Dal Colle sat 5th in OHL scoring with 29 goals and 67 points through 46 games showcasing his wicked shot and mind-blowing playmaking ability. Michael Dal Colle was ranked 4th onTSN’s Bob McKenzie’s 2014 NHL Draft Mid-Term Rankings. Brendan Ross

November 2013 – Dal Colle is coming off a career high five assist game versus the Ottawa 67’s on November 5th in 7-1 win. The big rangy winger has demonstrated elite vision and playmaking ability in the early games of his draft season. His ability to find open  lanes and execute crisp passes opens up the ice for his linemates and scoring chances almost immediately follow. Dal Colle’s style of game reminds me of Joe Thornton as he really slows the game down with his patience, possession skills and passing ability. Brendan Ross

November 2013 – Michael Dal Colle of the Oshawa Generals was named to the OHL roster for the 2013 SUBWAY Super Series. Dal Colle’s 11 goals and 28 points through 17 games places him second in scoring among first time 2014 NHL Draft eligible OHL skaters. Brendan Ross

September 2013 – Oshawa Generals sophomore Michael Dal Colle was named OHL Player of the Week (ending September 22) after scoring four goals and seven points in his first two games of the season. Brendan Ross

August 2013 – Dal Colle is coming off an impressive rookie campaign with the Oshawa Generals in 2012-13 where he registered 15 goals and 48 points in 63 contests. The Richmond Hill native’s game translated seamlessly to the Ontario Hockey League and that comes as no surprise since Dal Colle already owns good size, hockey sense and two-way aptitude. As the former 7th overall selection in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection Draft, Oshawa believes strongly that Dal Colle has all of the attributes to develop into a franchise forward. Heading into his draft year, Dal Colle will look to challenge for a top 10 selection and his strong puck possession game that features impressive vision and a goal scorer’s touch around the net will be highly coveted. Dal Colle has displayed that he can contribute on the defensive side of the puck and that will not go unnoticed. Dal Colle was a member of Team Canada’s 2013 Ivan Hlinka gold medal winning team posting two goals and four points in five games. Brendan Ross
