Fantasy Summary

Hard-nosed forward who loves the physical aspect of the game. He will be valuable in multicategory leagues if he can translate his scoring to the professional level.

June 2025 – Savage completed his senior season as the captain for the juggernaut Michigan State Spartans, suiting up for only 20 games due to injury and totaling 11 points. His profile screams bottom-six forward, as he is tenacious and physical, while also being an aggressive forechecker, penalty killer, and excellent in the face-off dot. The Red Wings have until August 2025 to decide on Savage, so if he can secure an ELC, he can keep his NHL hopes alive. Otherwise, he will probably be nothing more than an AHL journeyman or overseas player. Jeff Grybel

August 2024 – After a move to Michigan State, Savage nearly doubled his college production from the previous two years with 27 points in 38 games. The points are nice but too little too late given that this was his Draft+3 campaign. A fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2021, he has stood out all along due to his tenacity and physical engagement rather than scoring prowess. He is an above-average skater who bulldogs around the ice and never gives up on a play, a bit like Stars’ prospect, Logan Stankoven. His skillset is balanced and he plays a solid two-way game, a combination that gives him a realistic shot at a fourth-line checking role with Detroit at some point. Ben Gehrels

December 2022 – Savage is in the midst of his second NCAA season for Miami University (Ohio). His freshman season, which was his draft plus one season, he was just about half a point per game and really struggled to drive play with just a 41% Corsi. This season, with over a minute more of time on ice, his Corsi is 55% and his over a half point per game. What makes Savage a bit unique is his physical play. He is currently registering nearly a hit and a half per game and nearly a block per game. Even though he’s only shooting two and half times per game, that could be a solid floor of production in a multicategory league. Savage was just named to the under 20 world junior championship team for the Americans and he will be one of the returning members form their 2022 team that disappointingly finished 5th. He will be hoping to offer leadership and experience as one of eight 19-year-old forwards on the team. Victor Nuño
