Peter Reynolds

August 2021 – Reynolds was passed over in the 2021 NHL Draft and will return to the Saint John Sea Dogs in hopes of earning a selection as an overager in the 2022 draft class. Nick Richard

April 2021 – Reynolds has had an impressive debut season with Saint John in the QMJHL after a strong showing in the BCHL in 2019-2020. He has played nearly 17 minutes per game, including significant powerplay time, and has registered 31 points in 33 games for the Sea Dogs as a draft-eligible.

Reynolds plays the game at a high pace, not just with his skating but in his decision-making and puck movement. He has a smooth stride with good posture and ankle flexion, allowing him to get to top speed quickly. His crossovers are clean and he uses them to generate speed when circling low on the breakout or hustling back to recover after a lost possession. He has good puck-handling skills and can execute at high speed, but also has the ability to slow the game down and manipulate defenders off the rush with his hands and footwork rather than simply playing at full speed all the time. Reynolds scans the ice and processes the game quickly, using his vision and passing ability to generate chances for his teammates but he can finish on his own as well. He is a committed defender who backchecks hard and gets involved in his own zone, regularly lifting pucks from scrums or opposing puck carriers. Reynolds competes hard but still lacks strength on his slight frame, which sometimes causes difficulties when he is forced to play through traffic. Though he may have a bit of a longer development path, Reynolds has the skating, puck skills, intelligence, and competitiveness to develop into an effective top-nine NHL forward. Nick Richard
