Raw, skilled power forward with bottom six upside

March 2019 – Filipe’s junior season at Northeastern has been up and down filled with flashes of offensive upside and some stagnant scoring stretches. Filipe has produced at a half-point per game clip in 2018-19, and is second on the Huskies in both power-play goals (3) and game-winning goals (4). He’ll need some AHL seasoning before we know if he can crack an NHL lineup. Kevin LeBlanc
July 2018 – After a good freshman campaign, Filipe struggled to produce the same offensive numbers in his sophomore season. His third season at Northeastern will be a big one, especially after top scorers Adam Gaudette, Dylan Sikura and Nolan Stevens have moved on to professional hockey. Filipe will have the opportunity to play big minutes and it should show on the score sheet. The young winger was always going to be a multiple year NCAA player, so this should be a turning point year in his development. Kevin LeBlanc
July 2017 – Filipe put together a solid freshman season at Northeastern, scoring nine times for the Huskies and adding 12 assists for 21 points. He really started to come into his own with 15 games remaining in his season, where he played at nearly a point-per-game rate with 14 points. Filipe should be relied upon more heavily in the fall with Zach Aston-Reese and John Stevens heading to professional hockey. Senior-to-be Dylan Sikura decided to return to Northeastern and should pair with Filipe to drive a good amount of the teams offense. Now settled after his freshman season, I expect Filipe to have a big sophomore year with more added responsibility. He is a player to watch for the Hurricanes in the future, as a big bodied winger with great speed and a north-south game. Kevin LeBlanc
July 2016 – The Hurricanes continued their trend of drafting big, skilled forwards when taking Filipe in the third round. The USHL product put up modest numbers with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in his first season with 36 points in 56 games. Although he is raw, he possesses a good number of high-ceiling tools that could translate into a productive player as he continues to develop. He will attend Northeastern University next season, where he should be given multiple seasons to put all the pieces together. Kevin LeBlanc
