Fantasy Summary

Elite passer and strong skater on the bubble

October 2020 – It’s been a rough year for Jeremy Bracco owners, but this news isn’t necessarily bad. After maxing his prospect value year 2 years ago, the 23-year-old was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Maple Leafs, making him a free agent. The winger wanted a better opportunity at an NHL job and is now free to do so on his own terms. He remains a highly skilled NHL-level playmaker and passer but his limited generation of peripheral stats means he needs to put up consistent points to have fantasy value. His landing spot will have a huge impact on his outlook moving forward, keep an eye out. Hayden Soboleski

July 2020 – As the Maple Leafs return to play in preparation for the playoffs play-in round, Bracco has been left off  the expanded roster. This is obviously a bad sign for the prospect who has now not played in several months (dating back to his leave of absence from the Marlies). Being behind several of his AHL peers in terms of call-up readiness/worthiness does not bode well for his chances of securing a roster spot soon with the Leafs, but also hurts his trade value which is bad for fantasy owners hoping for a better chance on a new club. Hayden Soboleski

March 2020 – Bracco has rejoined the Marlies after taking an extended time off for undisclosed personal reasons. It’s been a tumultuous season for the talented winger, who reportedly asked for a trade to an organization with a clearer path forward for him out of the AHL. His 34 points in 44 games played are acceptable but an unwelcome step backwards from 2018-19, and his overall threat level on the ice has decreased thanks to 30 of those points being assists. He needs to diversify what he brings to the table, but the important fantasy fact is that he still already brings a ton of offensive awareness (especially on the PP) that keep him classified as a high-upside prospect. Hayden Soboleski

November 2019 – After an outstanding 2018-19 AHL campaign that skyrocketed his fantasy value, Bracco was still not in contention for a spot on the Leafs this year. His strongest assets are his passing vision and ability to control play in the offensive zone, and without a top-six spot in view he’s currently best served on the Marlies once again. He’s off to a relatively slow start with 6 points in 8 games played, half of which were on the powerplay. With more offensive depth on the team Bracco will take a smaller share of the points to be had, but his lack of even-strength production and low shooting rate are still causes for mild concern. There is always room to be more dangerous – he needs to be able to stand out on a more regular basis. Hayden Soboleski

February 2019 – Bracco is having a breakout season with the Marlies, currently their leading scorer with 43 points in 45 games. Roughly half of those points are coming on the powerplay which wont be sustainable in the NHL, but his passing prowess and good senses make him a high-upside fantasy own. He needs a strong training camp next fall to prove he’s ready for the next step, but he’s under contract for another season still so there is no rush. Hayden Soboleski

January 10, 2018, Bracco is getting more ice time lately but is still an occasional healthy scratch as the Marlies roster is deep. Bracco now has nine points in 21 games this year. Bracco clearly has elite offensive skills and his skating skills are second to none. When he is in the lineup he is always used on the power play where he is capable of quarterbacking the power play very effectively. His confidence appears to be growing steadily and with that he is getting more playing time. He is developing but it is taking him time to make the transition from junior to the pro level. It will be a year or two before he is ready to challenge for an NHL job. Brian Harling

November 2017 – The young winger has seen very limited action thus far in his rookie pro season and has not shown anything that sets him apart. He has only dressed for three of the 11 games so far on what is largely a revolving door team in the AHL. Bracco has shown flashes of speed and creativity, but has struggled to open or find space to produce results as of yet, it is also a struggle for a player to get his mojo when your only granted limited opportunities. Most often the case, rookies struggle during a transition year, especially major junior to pro so his limited puck touches are not overly surprising, he was expected to be the organization’s top offensive rookie which is a minor disappointment. This project is a long way from completion and there is no rush, keep monitoring his results as they should improve as he gets more reps in game action. Jason Banks

April 2016 – Bracco had very solid first season in the OHL with Kitchener that has been capped by the second round playoff loss. With 64 points in only 49 games, he does make you turn your head in a prospect system that is dominated with Mitch Marner talk. His post season efforts included a four point night on his way to 14 in just nine games. He is now eligible to join the AHL squad for the playoff run, but is unlikely to surface as the team is overloaded with prospects and no place to put them. Instead he will begin an offseason program that is expected to be laid out by Leaf management to give the dynamic winger a chance for a large camp in the fall. It will be expected he will complete a final junior season next year, but his possession skills make him an intriguing prospect to look forward too. Managers claiming now will be in for an uncomfortable wait, but he should be on your radar especially with the talents that he can complement playing with going forward. Jason Banks

November 2015 – After beginning the season for Boston College in the NCAA, Bracco decided a move to the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers was the best course for his development. In five games he already has contributed seven points. He is currently on the ‘shortlist’ to compete for a roster spot on the Team USA World Junior squad but is not locked in. His production of 13 points in seven games and showing chemistry with Austin Matthews in the under-18s does help his chances, even with Matthews questionable with injury. Bracco now can come to a full training camp in Toronto next fall and has the flair and firepower to make noise. Jason Banks

June 2015 – Leafs got a steal at 61st overall, as Bracco had been a high second rounder in many mock drafts and was actually 19th in Dobber’s Fantasy Prospects Report. Likely fell due to his size, which is reasoning that has haunted many NHL teams over time as many smaller players turn out to be high quality. Bracco has talent that can’t be taught and if he can continue to develop then 15 or 20 NHL GM’s will kick themselves for letting him slide past. That being said, as a smaller player the wait will be a long one. Dobber

February 2015 – The uber-skilled Jeremy Bracco has been a bright star among his peers for several years, oozing elite offensive skills. Bracco has continued to exceed all expectations setting scoresheets on fire with the Under-18 NTDP. Possessing a truly unique skating technique, relying on crafty edge-work and a heel-to-heel stride, Bracco is a dynamic offensive winger who competes at high speed. His ability to draw in defenders and then exploit their abandoned space is elite and speaks to his high-end vision and creativeness with the puck. He’s small by NHL standards but his skill warrants a high draft selection. Brendan Ross
