March 2019 – The now 22-year-old netminder was recalled to Hartford from the Maine Marriners of the ECHL in February. The former second-round draft-pick has had his ups and downs in both leagues, and as is typical with goaltenders, appears to be taking the long track on the development curve. His competition in the Ranger pipeline will prove to be a tomultuous hurdle, especially if he doesn’t do something to set himself apart from the group. There’s really no need to invest fantasy assets in this type of a project right now, and despite his draft pedigree, there’s no reason to expect preferential opportunity for Halverson. Brayden Olafson 

February 2018 — Halverson has spent most of his time in the ECHL in 2017-18 with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits after being pushed down the Rangers depth chart as a result of free agent signings.  Seeing action in only 22 of the Swamp Rabbits 57 games Halverson has struggled at times posting a 3.87 GAA and 0.900 save %.  The young tender did get an emergency call up with the Rangers in February 2018 and dressed against the Ottawa Senators.  Halverson relieved Henrik Lundquist in the 3rd period and saw 13 minutes of game action making five saves on six shots.  The development path with goaltenders can be a long one and Halverson remains a long term prospect.  Geoff Kent

February 2017 – After completing a solid OHL junior career, including two WJC U20 tournaments, Halverson has made an excellent transition to the pro game in 2016/17. Starting the season in Greenville of the ECHL, he posted a 1.77 GAA and .943 percentage through a handful of games. He received a callup to the Hartford Wolfpack in mid-November and has started about 40 per cent of the games since then, splitting duty with AHL veteran Magnus Hellberg. While Halverson’s numbers through 14 starts haven’t been stellar (3.42, .882), he hasn’t received much support as the Wolfpack sit 29th overall. While Halverson has the raw tools to develop into a solid NHL-caliber goaltender, the Rangers have a deep talent pool in net. He will need to continue to push himself if he is to become the next King of New York. Geoff Kent

December 2015 – Brandon Halverson has had a bad season in the OHL, and his team, Sault St. Marie, is struggling after last year’s stellar performance. The Greyhound netminder has just nine wins in 21 games with 3.28 GAA and 0.895 SV%, but this was enough for him to earn an invite to the US national U20 team. Halverson will be the backup behind Alex Nedeljkovic and will get a start or two to get a rest for the IceDogs goalie. Jozsef Kurtosi

July 2015 – New York Rangers has signed Brandon Halverson to a three year entry-level deal. Last season, Halverson went 40-5-2 with a 2.63 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage and six shutouts. He became the first Rangers’ draft pick in team history to earn at least 40 wins before the NHL. Halverson has a great frame, but has to fill out a lot. He is an athletic goalie and handles the puck very well. Team USA invited him to their annual summer evaluation WJC camp, and he has a great chance to contend for the starter spot on the team for the coming WJC in 2016. The lanky goaltender will return to the OHL to complete his junior career in 2015-16. The Greyhounds were a powerhouse last year, but they will lost a lot of top prospects to NHL graduation. It will be interesting to see how will turn out his development when his team will struggle a little bit. Jozsef Kurtosi

December, 2014 – Halverson had another seven game winning streak in November in the OHL, which gave him the well-earned invite to the WJC in December. He was Demko’s backup during the tournament, only started in one game, where he shut down a weak German squad. With this good experience he will come back to the OHL and will try to back stop the Greyhounds to an OHL Championship. Jozsef Kurtosi

November, 2014 – At the 2014 NHL Draft, New York Rangers took Traverse City native goaltender, Brandon Halverson, with their top pick in the second round. Halverson spent much of the last year backing up Penguins’ prospect Matt Murray in Sault Ste. Marie of the OHL. With Matt Murray graduating to professional hockey, Halverson took over between the pipes this year and is off to a very good start with Greyhounds. He won his first seven starts posting a .920 SV% and 2.58 GAA. He cooled off in late October but playing behind a very good Greyhounds team, he should challenge for the OHL championship. Halverson has a big, lanky frame that takes up a lot of the net. He has great athletic ability for his size and moves well in the crease. Halverson is one of the best puck handling goalie prospects in the world and his style is reminiscent of Mike Smith’s. Halverson is on the radar for the US WJC Team this year after a strong summer evaluation camp. Jozsef Kurtosi
