Alexandre Grenier

July 2018 – The Laval Rocket have signed Grenier to an AHL contract. It appears Grenier’s days as an NHL prospect have come to an end because he couldn’t even get an NHL contract anymore and instead had to settle for an AHL contract which means he’s not even allowed to play in the NHL unless an NHL team signs him in the middle of the season.  Jokke Nevalainen

January 2018 – Grenier has been selected to the AHL All-Star Classic. The 26-year-old is having a strong season in the AHL with 27 points in 35 games so far. This is his first season in the Florida Panthers organization after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Panthers last summer. Jokke Nevalainen June 2017 – The big and talented winger had another strong year in the American league. He recorded 17 goals and 45 points 69 contests, while failing to record a point in three NHL contests. As a Group VI free agent, Grenier may be able to find a two-way contract in another organization or look to re-sign an AHL deal with Utica. The 25-year-old is looking more and more like a career-minor league player. Cam Robinson December 2016 – The 25-year-old leads the AHL’s Utica Comets with 20 points in 23 games. This is his most productive AHL campaign, but after a disappointing cup of coffee with the Canucks last season, at his age, it’s unlikely the Quebec native will find a permanent home in the NHL. Cam Robinson August 2016 – Vancouver extended Grenier to the tune of a one-year two-way contract. The soon-to-be 25-year-old is a classic late bloomer who has continued to take developmental strides at the AHL-level, culminating in 16 goals and 48 points in 69 games last season. Grenier also saw six games with the Canucks but failed to record a point. At 6’5, the big-bodied winger doesn’t impose his will physically, but offers great reach and a nice offensive touch. He will battle for a spot among the top 13 NHL forwards at camp. This may be his last true chance to stick in the best league in the world. Cam Robinson January 2016 – Grenier continues to be the kind of player whom coaches love. With great size and strength, and an emerging understanding of the pro game, he appears on his way to a bottom-six role in the NHL. While his offensive game appears to have plateaued, Grenier has been a consistent performer with Utica, putting up three goals and six points with an even plus-minus rating and 14 PIMs over 15 games since December. This effort and work ethic may have given the organization the faith needed for the recent trade of prospect Nicklas Jensen, and a move up the depth chart will only help Grenier’s place with the Canucks future plans. It may have already begun, as he sported an ‘A’ on his jersey for the first time in his pro career in a recent game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. David McDonald November 2015 – The 24-year-old giant has worked hard to get where he is today, taking a long path before earning a call up to the big leagues for the first time on November 18th. Grenier received a team-low (amongst forwards) 8:52 min. of ice-time (vs Jets) but did put four shots on goal. He is trying to prove he can be a serviceable player at the NHL level, and this was a solid start. Mike Barrett Jan 2014 – Grenier has gone from playing mainly ECHL last year to a top liner in the AHL this year. The acceleration in his development has been a bit of a surprising, but the Canucks obtaining their own affiliate and surrounding the 6’5 forward with talent certainly helped. He is physical on the forecheck but is still learning to use his size effectively. He is likely on the Canucks short list in terms of call-ups and could see some NHL time as early as this year. – Austin Wallace July 2012 – Grenier has signed in Austria to play against professional men and the Canucks could not be happier. He will get a new experience and be able to develop his game without getting stuck in a log jam of talent in the AHL for Chicago. It is an irregular path to the NHL, but is not a knock on his potential or talent. Jason Banks May, 2012 – As with most big forwards, Alexandre Grenier’s development has been slow but he is starting to hit his stride. He only made it in the QMJHL at age 19, but showed enough to be drafted by Vancouver the following summer in the 2011 draft. This season was a breakout campaign as he scored 25 goals and 64 points in 64 games with Halifax. He will need time to develop in the AHL and has some stiff competition ahead of him in the Canucks’ organization but if he catches on his size will be an asset next to the skill players in Vancouver.
