February 2017 – Watson started the season late due to a wrist injury sustained last season in the OHL Playoffs that required surgery.  The Kings had hoped that Watson would have been able to use the offseason to get into shape for the AHL, but it seems was best for Watson to head back to the OHL as an overage player and recover from his injury.  The 20-year-old seventh round pick was traded by the Kingston Frontenacs to the Mississauga Steelheads in November, for four draft picks. Since his return from injury in December, he has been nearly a point-per-game player scoring 20 points in 21 games.  His output so far with the Steelheads is far below last season’s pace.  However, he is on a new team, and he also missed necessary offseason training.  He’s going to need to gain quite a bit of strength, as size could easily be the knock on a player listed at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds.  Philip Kamhi

September 2016 – Watson’s scored 48 points in 41 games (1.17 points per game) in the 2014-15 season then scored 89 points in 64 games (1.39 points per game) the 2015-16 season, which shows a continued progress. His 89 points also made him the 11th-highest scorer in the OHL, and he also had the Kings’ second highest NHLe, at 36 NHL equivalent points. Expect Watson to make the jump to the AHL this season, where much of the focus will be on whether he is big enough to play in the NHL. Philip Kamhi

August 2015 – It was a disappointing 2014-15 for the gifted Watson, as his points per game only inched from the previous season’s 1.05 to 1.17 despite increased playing time. Many expected more of a “statement” from the 5-9 winger after his unexpected freefall to the 2014 NHL Draft’s final round. He was hobbled by a broken ankle last season, and there’s still time this fall for the 19-year-old to start to silence his doubters. An impressive showing at the recent World Juniors Showcase is a good start. Sheng Peng

June 2014 – The Los Angeles Kings selected small skilled forward Spencer Watson 209th overall at the 2014 NHL Draft. Brendan Ross August 2013 – The London, Ontario native has quickly become a top prospect for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Dating back to his minor midget days, Watson has had a flair for potting goals with a deadly accurate shot. Watson has a goal scorer’s instinct for finding open scoring areas on the ice. He is a swift skater with an elusive element making him a difficult player to contain during one-on-one contests. In his rookie 2012-13 season with the Kingston Frontenacs, Watson ranked eighth in first year scoring with 23 goals and 43 points in 63 games. Watson suited up for Team Canada at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and led the event in scoring with four goals and 10 points in 5 games, capturing gold for his nation. Brendan Ross
