Will Wippert

Fantasy Summary

Poised two-way defender with moderate offensive instinct that should land him a top-four NHL position.

January 2021 – Guhle will miss up to six weeks because of a knee injury. This news comes at the most unfortunate time for the young defender as the season is less than a week away and he was vying for a spot in the top six. He will have to claw his way back into the lineup when healthy, as the likes of Jamie Drysdale, Christian Djoos, and other young defenders are competing to make the opening night roster during this shortened season. Lucas Main

December 2020 – When the Ducks drafted Jamie Drysdale and signed Kodie Curran and Kevin Shattenkirk, that put a number of hurdles in front Guhle. He hasn’t been able to stay healthy in the Ducks organization, which has hindered his ability to fully develop and get both feet wet. If he can play a full year and showcase his puck moving abilities, he has the potential to quarterback a second power-play unit. Lucas Main

March 2020 – Guhle didn’t take a major step forward like most were hoping after his move to Anaheim, but he didn’t miss a step either. The 22-year-old played in a career high 30 games this season, scoring four goals and four assists (all career highs). He also played in 27 AHL games, developing his 200-foot game and setting a career high plus-9. He has a number of other young defenders competing against him to make the Ducks roster on a full-time basis next season and should have an inside track as he showed good chemistry with Cam Fowler at times during the 2019-20 season. Lucas Main

November 2019 – After starting the season with the Ducks, Guhle was sent down to the Gulls. He was playing alongside Cam Fowler, but averaged under 19 minutes. He wasn’t getting much time on the penalty kill and even less on the power play. He’ll get ample minutes in the AHL which will help him develop his game to the next level and get stronger with and without the puck. He should be the first defenseman called up if a puck mover gets hurt. Lucas Main

March 2019 – After being traded for Brandon Montour, the Ducks had a big gap to fill in their lineup and Guhle has been a nice surprise. He was paired with Cam Fowler and they instantly had chemistry. He can carry the puck out of the zone with his speed, but also get it out of the zone with an outlet pass. Before suffering an upper body injury, he was quarterbacking the second power play unit, getting pucks through traffic, and doing a tremendous job of walking the line and spreading the puck around. He has tremendous upside in an Anaheim sweater for next season as the team looks to transition to a faster, up-tempo pace. Lucas Main

February 2019 – Guhle has been traded from Buffalo to Anaheim.  Jokke Nevalainen

August 2018 – This year saw a taste of NHL for Brendan Guhle, as he slowly progresses towards being a full-time NHL defender as registered five assists in 18 games with Buffalo and is still without a goal, but has shown the right development path and attributes in the AHL which shows that his time is coming shortly. Guhle will most likely start in the AHL again this year and then make a run for the team later on in the year, but he could surprise in training camp. Marcus Griep

January 2018 – Guhle got his first taste of 2018 NHL action by suiting up against the Winnipeg Jets in a 7-4 defeat. He played nearly 18 minutes, posting positive possession numbers and, while he was held off the scoresheet, threw three shots on net.  He’s been dynamite in his first pro season sitting second on Rochester in defenseman scoring with 20 points in 35 games and is ties for second among league rookies. His AHL days are likely coming to an end. Brad Phillips

April 2017 – Brendan Guhle joined the Rochester Americans after a great season with Prince George, who were unfortunately bounced out of the first round of the WHL playoffs by the Portland Winterhawks. He registered six assists in as many games during the postseason. Guhle got out to a hot start with the Amerks, scoring in his first game back in the AHL. Since then, he has dropped off in point production, but is still creating offense from the back end. Max Marko

December 2016– After a slow start to the year on a slumping Prince Albert Raiders team, Brendan Guhle has found new life after being traded to the Prince George Cougars. In just five games with the club, Brendan Guhle has scored three times, already surpassing his total this year in Prince Albert. Guhle’s speed is still very prominent and his smooth skating and agility helped him earn an emergency recall from the Buffalo Sabres. Although once thought that Ghule would be having a down year, his transition from the Raiders to the Cougars allows him to see more ice-time, as well as more responsibility on special teams, specifically the powerplay. Two of his three goals with Prince George have come on the powerplay, which is a terrific sign for a defenseman like Ghule who likes to sneak down into the zone for scoring chances. Brendan Guhle will most likely make his NHL debut on December 3rd against the Boston Bruins. Max Marko

April 2016 – Guhle finished his third WHL year losing in the first round of the WHL playoffs in five games. Guhle immediately signed an Amateur Try Out (ATO) and has joined the Rochester Americans for their final six games. It isn’t likely the Amerks will make the Calder Cup playoffs, but the AHL games Guhle plays will help his development against bigger, stronger men then what he is used to in the WHL. Look for Guhle to get some powerplay time with the Amerks and quite a bit of playing time to showcase his defensive skills. Paul Zwambag

August 2015 – An entry-level contract has been officially signed, three year deal at $575,000 per year. Guhle will return to the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League for the 2015-16 season. Paul Zwambag

June 2015 – Drafted 51st overall, but his role is likely not going to be a power-play guy. Especially in this organization, although you can never say never. Dobber

June 2015 – Guhle is a tough prospect to project as he has some excellent tools however has yet to put them all together. He is an excellent skater and really bounces around the ice. He covers a ton of ground and is always in the thick of the action. Guhle also shows an ability to make very clever outlet passes. When he’s on his game he can be an extremely effective two-way defenseman. The issue facing Guhle is his inability to string together his flashes of brilliance. While he is an effective puck mover he is prone to the occasional mental lapse and he can use overall improvement in his play without the puck. Regardless of where he gets drafted, Guhle is a long term project and therefore his fantasy impact won’t be felt for a while. Additionally his overall offensive potential is limited by a below average shot however with added strength this aspect of his game could see natural improvement. Donesh Mazloum
