Observations:
October 2017 — Buchnevich opens the 2017/18 season in New York where you can expect him to be a mainstay throughout the year. Coming out of camp Buchnevich has been skating in a top-six role and also seeing time on the first power play unit. If Buchnevich can remain healthy through eighty games there is potential for a real breakout season for the talented young winger. Geoff Kent
June 2017 — After a strong start to the season, Buchnevich battled through some injuries that limited his time with the Rangers to 41 regular season games. During this time, he showed flashes of his offensive prowess, producing at an overall 0.5 ppg (8G, 20A) rate, while skating about 13 minutes per night, including time on the second power-play unit. With the potential of some significant off-season moves in New York, the opportunity exists for Buchnevich to contribute at a greater level in 2017/18. Geoff Kent
November 2016 — After signing an entry level contract in the spring the talented forward stuck with the Rangers out of training camp. While back spasm related issues have limited his action to ten of the Rangers first eighteen games he has performed very well when in the line up. Pavel has hit the score sheet in six of ten games producing at a 0.8 PPG pace including a highlight reel 1G, 2A effort in a 5-3 loss to Vancouver. The future looks bright for the offensively gifted forward. Geoff Kent
February 2016 – Since the move to SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL, Pavel has had some difficulty finding his way onto the scoresheet. Through the first 14 games with his new club, the speedy winger has potted two goals, and added four assists. This may be alarming to some people, as Buchnevich had much more statistical success with his old club, Severstal Cherepovets, scoring 12 goals and 17 assists for a point total of 29 in his 40 games before the move. I would not fret too much over the drop in points; Pavel has proven he has the ability to be an elite offensive talent. The Rangers' lack of prospect depth on the wings adds a lot of pressure for Buchnevich to pan out, but I still envision him as a top-line forward in the NHL. Bryan Puffer
December 2015- Buchnevich has been acquired by SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. The recent acquisition stems from the fact his previous club, Severstal Cherepovets, are officially out of the KHL playoffs and are looking to receive some assets in order to rebuild for next season. It also goes without saying that a transition the National Hockey League is looming in the horizon. Pavel has proven he is fully capable of playing against professionals. In the 40 games he skated with Severstal Cherepovets this year Buchnevich managed to score 12 goals, and add 17 assists, for a point total of 29. The move to SKA is a great opportunity for him to gain some playoff experience and make a deep run for the Gagarin Cup (KHL Finals). Ranger fans should remain optimistic that he will sign an entry-level deal following the conclusion of this season. Bryan Puffer
March 2015 – Buchnevich finished his second full KHL season with 13 goals and 30 points in 48 games after Sevestal Cherepovets missed the KHL playoffs. He had the second best under-20 season in KHL history behind Evgeni Kuznetsov. At the 2015 World Junior Championships, Buchnevich helped Russia reach the final but eventually lost to Team Canada. He ended the tournament with one goal and six points in seven games. After finishing with the KHL's big club, Buchnevich joined Severstal’s junior team. In the MHL’s playoff he has seven goals and five assists in six games. He has high hockey IQ, skates well, is strong on the puck and creates lot of chances. He makes quick, smart decisions with the puck and owns creativeness in his game. Buchnevich plays with a lot of confidence. Buchnevich is expected to be invited to the Russian National Team Evaluation games before the World Championships. His contract with Severstal expires once the KHL season ends and the Rangers will likely sign him to an entry-level deal over the summer with hopes he comes to North America next season. Jozsef Kurtosi
October 2014 – The Russian youngster is experiencing a breakout season in KHL with six goals and seven assists through 16 games for an improved Severstal club. In 16 games he almost matched his 2013-14 production. He was named KHL forward of the week after posting three multi-point games between September 15-21. His skill, determination and work rate has been exceptional. When he doesn’t score, he is also noticeable considering his hard working attitude. Buchnevich is logging over 16 minutes of ice-time consistently as a top-line forward in the KHL. Jozsef Kurtosi
September 2014 – Buchnevich was really impressive at Rangers development camp late June. He was a clear cut standout in camp showing his dynamic game and excellent offensive instincts. He possesses good gize and skating ability plus his body is starting to mature. Buchnevich played in two summer tournaments as a member of Russian U20 squad. In seven games he scored three goals and eight points, which was enough to lead the nation. Buchnevich is a highly skilled player who can play all three forward positions. He will honor his contract with Severstal Cherepovets and spend another season in the KHL before coming over to North America to start his pro career with Rangers. Jozsef Kurtosi
March 2014 – After being drafted 75th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, Buchnevich is currently playing with Cherepovets Severstal of the KHL. Buchnevich is the youngest member of his team but is playing 12-15 minutes per game. Buchnevich scored seven goals and 18 points despite playing on a poor club as a teenager. At the 2014 World Junior Championships, Buchnevich helped Russia capture the bronze medal playing first line minutes alongside Mikhail Grigorenko. Buchnevich has incredible offensive instincts and he is an excellent skater with great hands. With Kuznetsov leaving Russia for the NHL, Buchnevich becomes the top Russian prospect who has yet to play an NHL game. Buchnevich is under contract with Cherepovets until April of 2015. He still has a lot to do before crossing the Atlantic. He needs to work on his defensive game and bulk up because his body is not NHL ready. If he refines his game and comes over, the Rangers will definitely get a steal from the 2013 draft. Jozsef Kurtosi
June 2013 – Buchnevich enters the 2013 NHL Draft as a wildcard due to his Russian nationality. He is a highly skilled winger with outstanding puck skills and has the ability to dominate possession. Buchnevich packs a dangerous shot and owns very good creativity and vision. He had a great showing at the U18 World Hockey Championships scoring 11 points in seven games for Russia. Looking towards the draft, Buchnevich owns a first round skill set but the KHL (where he plays) uncertainty muddles his true desires. Brendan Ross
Fantasy Outlook: B+
Top-line forward skills are evident but he's being limited by injuries.
