If you get the chance to attend one of the scrimmages in your neck of the woods, take the opportunity to enjoy some fast paced hockey. Most of these prospects are trying to prove their worth to the team, either signed or unsigned. It makes for some very good hockey. I attended the Sabres development camp scrimmage last year and was blown away with the attendance, as well as the pace of the game. I am unable to attend this year and quite disappointed. A lot of the teams are also making live streams available on their websites, so tune into their sites on the given days to find out where to watch.

A few development camps have already opened, the NY Islanders played their scrimmage game Wednesday night, some quick highlights. The Islanders played four contests, 20 minutes in length. Team Blue & White won the mini tournament, behind a great performance by undrafted defenseman Jimmy Schuldt (St. Cloud State, NCAA), who scored four goals in total, including a hat trick in the third period of the final game. Joshua Ho-Sang had three assists in the two games. Ilya Sorokin recorded a shutout in his first game and won both of his games for Team Blue & White. Anthony Beauvillier scored a goal and an assist for Team Blue in two games played.

The Islanders prospects took part in a mini skills competition, defenseman Loic Leduc won the hardest shot with a 96 mph shot.

Mathew Barzal sat out with a hip strain, defenseman Jesse Graham sat out with a maintenance day and Boston University defenseman Doyle Somerby was late and did not participate in the scrimmages, no word on the specifics, but not a good sign for the BU Terrier.
