Fantasy Summary

Veteran AHL producer worthy of NHL call-up opportunities

April 2021 – Gaudet remains on an AHL deal with the Marlies. He is playing the center ice position full time and has grown into a good power-forward-lite player who can get to the net and score greasy goals. He is the team leader in points but given his age and contract status he is unlikely to become NHL-relevant. Nothing wrong with being a solid AHL top-six player but most fantasy leagues don’t count minor league production. Hayden Soboleski

October 2020 – Gaudet has signed an AHL deal with the Maple Leafs organization. He has established himself as a reliable middle-six forward in the minors, but is too low in the food chain to expect any NHL action, hence the AHL contract. Hayden Soboleski

July 2019 – Gaudet has signed a one-year deal with the Maple Leafs. Given the significant depth in the organization, his chances of seeing NHL time is slim to none. Hayden Soboleski

February 2018- Gaudet has been dealt to Nashville along with John Ramage for PC Labrie and Trevor Murphy. While Gaudet is having a solid offensive season with 22 points, one of his best since being in the Coyotes system, he never really offered much fantasy wise and seemed at best a fourth line center. If he couldn’t crack the Coyotes lineup it seems very doubtful Gaudet gets a shot in Nashville. Keith Duggan

July 2017- The Coyotes have signed Gaudet to a one-year, two-way contract. Last season he racked up six goals and 22 points in 62 games for Tucson of the AHL along with one assist in four games with the Coyotes. Gaudet seems more of a depth option for Arizona and probably spends most of 2017-18 in the AHL and thus doesn’t offer much fantasy wise. Keith Duggan

July 2016- Much like his rookie pro season, Tyler Gaudet played a strong two-way, 200 foot game in 2015-16, but offensively he didn’t offer much. In 44 games with Springfield he racked up four goals and 13 points in 44 games, not exactly making him fantasy relevant. Gaudet also played 14 games with Arizona, putting up one goal and three points but playing very well as the team’s fourth line center. If you’re looking for a NHL comparison, he’s basically a bigger, younger Boyd Gordon. With the Coyotes not resigning Gordon, Gaudet has the inside track to win the fourth line center role on a permanent basis for 2016-17. Keith Duggan

November 2015- With injuries to Arizona’s top two centers (Martin Hanzel, Antoine Vermette), Tyler Gaudet has been recalled to the Coyotes. In his first three games with the big club, Gaudet has mostly played on the fourth line and some PK time, not looking out of place with the Yotes at all. In his third game with the Coyotes, Gaudet assisted on a Steve Downie goal for his first NHL point. Keith Duggan

June 2015- Offensively it wasn’t a huge first pro season for Tyler Gaudet, eight goals and 20 points in 71 games with Portland. But he played a very strong two-way, 200 foot game and was extremely valuable in the face-off circle. Gaudet looks like he’ll be in Arizona soon, he played two scoreless games with the Coyotes in 2014-15. Fantasy wise though, Gaudet will only be useful in the deepest of league’s.  Keith Duggan

December 2014- Tyler Gaudet has been recalled to the Coyotes(December 28th). While offensively he hasn’t done much with Portland of the AHL, four goals and four assists in 29 games, but as advertised defensively Gaudet’s been outstanding. He’ll never be a scoring star but if your in a league that counts hits, blocked shots and faceoff wins, Gaudet might be someone to look into grabbing. Keith Duggan

August 2014- There is late bloomers and then there is Tyler Gaudet, who’s journey to the pro ranks has been a long but also amazing how much his game has progressed in the last few seasons. From never being drafted into the OHL and earning a spot in the QMJHL with the Gatineau Olympiques. There he was cut midway through the season and ended up in Jr. A with the Pembroke Lumber Kings, riding his bicycle to and from practice while working a part time job. December 2012 saw Gaudet sign with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, when his former coach in Pembroke, Sheldon Keefe was coaching recommended they pick him up to play for the OHL team. Then about a year later, signing an entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes in November 2013. He finished 2013-14 season, his first full year in the OHL, third in team scoring with 61 points in 65 games and got into a couple games with the Portland Pirates of the AHL when the Greyhounds were eliminated from the playoffs. OHL coaches voted him the Western Conference’s best defensive forward, best penalty killer and most improved player. This feel good story isn’t over yet, as the Coyotes are extremely high on the big center and expect him to contend for a roster spot as early as this coming season. It’s hard to get a grip on how much offense he’ll bring to the next level since he has progressed so far in so little time but looks to be more of a hardworking, shutdown center that plays a strong 200 foot game that chips in the rare point. Even though the Coyotes are very excited about him, look for him to spend sometime in the AHL to adjust to the pro game. Keith Duggan
