June 2019 – Murphy did not get a qualifying offer from the Ducks which means he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He has also signed a two-year contract with Kunlun in the KHL.  Jokke Nevalainen

December 2018 – Murphy has been traded from Arizona to Anaheim. This is the second time he’s been moved within a year which is a concern.  Jokke Nevalainen

October 2018 – Expected to possibly make a run at a roster spot on the Coyotes for 2018-19, instead Murphy was one of the last cuts in camp, cleared waivers and reported to Tucson. If the Coyotes hit injury problems on the blueline, Murphy is most likely one of the first call-ups. He’s expected to be a leader for a young Tucson team and so far has one goal and two points in four games. Keith Duggan

August 2018- Not only did Murphy post career highs in goals and points the AHL last season but the he also proved he can play in the NHL. Shortly after being acquired from Nashville and injuries hitting the Coyotes blueline, Murphy was recalled making his NHL debut on March 24th. In eight games with the Yotes, he posted one goal and three points, not bad for someone who was picked up to give their AHL team depth heading into the playoff’s. Murphy also did that too, finishing as Tucson’s top scoring blueliner with 10 goals and 35 points, along with a healthy 73 penalty minutes. In the AHL playoff’s he stayed hot, racking up one goal and six points in eight games, along with a 25 PIM’s. The Coyotes picked up several depth defenseman this offseason so Murphy won’t be given a roster spot, actually he’s expected to play for Tucson again and be a injury/depth callup as the season goes along. He did show well to end 2017-18 though and could win a roster spot in training camp but either way as of right now probably won’t have a big role with the Coyotes in 2018-19. Keith Duggan

February 2018- Murphy has been dealt to the Coyotes along with forward Pierre-Cedric Labrie for Tyler Gaudet and John Ramage. The offensive defenseman is having a good season in the AHL with Milwaukee, racking up 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) in 48 games, sixth on the team and tops among d-men in scoring. Murphy is currently 15th in scoring for defenseman in the AHL but never saw a call-up in his time with Nashville. He gives Tucson some depth and offense from the blueline and seems pretty much that as Murphy most likely never see’s anytime with the Coyotes. Keith Duggan

June 2017 — Since the last update, Murphy has played two seasons with the Milwaukee Admirals. This year he played one game short of the full 76 regular season games, while putting up twelve goals and 33 points. Four of those goals were scored on the powerplay. Murphy is shooting the puck a lot, averaging two shots per game during his time in the AHL. The Windsor native is a good skater and can quarterback the power play. He plays with an edge, even though he is only 5-10. Sometimes he can be a bit inconsistent defensively. Niko Salminen

November 2015 – After going undrafted Murphy was signed as a free agent in September by the Nashville Predators.  He has stepped right into the AHL and has gotten off to a blazing start leading the Admiral D in scoring with eight points in eight games. He is also the fifth leading scorer among rookie defenseman in the league. Murphy is an offensively inclined defenseman and has shown an ability to put up points in the junior ranks scoring at over a point per game basis in his final year of junior. While it’s a small sample size the start to his professional career is a promising look at his offensive potential. It’s worth monitoring if he can keep this pace up.  Donesh Mazloum
