Travis Barron

February 2022 – After being unable to secure a pro role above the ECHL level in Colorado, Barron moved to the Arizona organization on an AHL deal and has played in the majority of the Roadrunners’ games of the 2021-22 campaign. His 11 points in 32 games is a career-high, along with his 47 SOG. His 36 PIM is easily on pace to be a career high as well, and he certainly earned some respect as a teammate after standing up for his teammate Boko Imama and fighting the player who performed a racist gesture towards him. He is well on his way to proving himself as a pro, but this is likely the highest he will make it up an organizational depth chart. Hayden Soboleski

May 2021 – Barron went pointless in 4 AHL contests to open the season and was assigned to the ECHL for the majority of the campaign. His scoring pace took a hit compared to 2019-20, but he got a second AHL look at the end of the season and is suiting up for the playoffs.  The Eagles have added several prospects this year who project to return in 2021-22 so spots will only be harder to hang onto moving forward. Barron needs to prove himself AHL-worthy soon, but he has already lost any fantasy value he had as a 7th-round-pick. Hayden Soboleski

February 2021 – After spending the majority of pre-shutdown 2019-20 in the ECHL, Barron is starting the 2020-21 campaign on the AHL Eagles. 22-year-old Barron does not need to be on your fantasy radar after going pointless in 9 AHL games last season but was a slow cooker in the OHL before becoming a dependable captain so he may again just need more time. If he can translate a fraction of his multi-cat numbers from the ECHL to the AHL this year then he may gain some clout, but for now you should pass on the AHL fourth-liner. Hayden Soboleski

September 2019 – Not unexpectedly, Barron is among the first assignments from NHL training camp to AHL training camp. He needs to secure a full-time AHL spot to have any fantasy value given the many depth options added to the organization over the summer. Hayden Soboleski

February 2019 – The jump to pro hockey has hit Barron hard. After 3 points in 27 AHL contests, he has been assigned to the ECHL, where he sits just under a point-per-game pace. Barron has always been a grinder so this demotion shouldn’t slow him down, but in today’s NHL even bottom-six players need upside, so he needs to up his game. Hayden Soboleski

March 2018 – Barron has signed an ELC with the Avalanche. He is still a few years away from pushing for an NHL spot (don’t draft just yet), but this is a big success for the 7th-round pick. Hayden Soboleski

March 2018 – Travis Barron has been voted the best hitter and hardest worker in the OHL by coaches. These are huge honors for the 19-year-old 67s captain in his 4th OHL season, in which he has set career-highs in every regard (goals, assists, PIM, SOG among those tracked by the league). Barron was a longshot when taken in the 7th round in 2016, after putting up mediocre sophomore OHL numbers that didn’t take a big step up from those in his rookie campaign. He then earned the C for Ottawa, after which his PIM numbers jumped and he earned a reputation as a hard-hitting grinder. Now his offence has taken a step under a new coach (albeit as an older player), and he seems to have found his game. He still has a long ways to go before being a real threat push for an NHL gig, but he has filled out his frame and learned to use it in a way coaches love, which will go a long way as he turns pro soon.
