Observations:

February 2018 – Tomas Hyka has bounced around a variety of leagues over the past few seasons including the SHL, Allsvenskan and the Czech Republic’s top professional league before beginning his rookie season this year in the AHL as a 24-year-old. The small speedster has done nothing but impress and currently sits third in points on the Chicago Wolves roster, as well as first on the team in scoring just shy of a point-per-game average. It’s unclear what the long-term plans are for Hyka as he becomes a restricted free agent at the conclusion of this season but he still holds some value in deeper dynasty leagues that can carry a large number of prospects. The Golden Knights’ success this season has limited the opportunity to test out many AHL tweeners, like Hyka, as they hold one of the best NHL records in the hunt for a top playoff seed.  Mason Black

September 2017 – Hyka had a pretty good Exhibition debut with the Golden Knights, scoring two goals in the 9-4 rout of the Vancouver Canucks. Hyka has shown his scoring touch in this game and also the prospect games against the Kings last week. Hyka finished scored the first ever Golden Knights goal in a rookie game. george McPhee has expressed excitement for Hyka, who McPhee believes is ahead of most of the prospects in the system due to his experience in Europe. Hyka has played in the Czech league for the last hree seasons, but has come over to North America to try to crack the Golden Knights roster out of training camp.

June 2017 – Tomas Hyka recently signed a $710,000 one-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights. When Hyka comes over to North America for next year, he will likely play with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. He has one year to prove he can put up decent numbers or he may not get another contract. After Hyka's contract is up (2018), he will still be a Restricted Free Agent and Vegas will still hold his rights. Hyka will benefit from the NHL transitioning to more small build players, but he will still have to prove he can score in the AHL before getting a chance in Vegas.

It has been several years since Hyka was drafted and left unsigned by the Kings. Hyka has been playing the past three years, 2014-2017 in the Czech Extraliga with BK Mlada Boleslav. Hyka was over a point per game player in his two years in the QMJHL, but after moving back to his hometown of Mlada Boleslav he was unable to produce at the same consistency. Over the three years in the Czech Extraliga he finished with 79 points (37 goals, 42 assists) in 130 games. Paul Zwambag

June 2014 – Tomas Hyka was not signed by the Los Angeles and he will re-enter the 2014 NHL Draft as a result. Hyka scored four goals and nine points in 40 games with Farjestad of the SHL in 2013-14. Brendan Ross

September 2013 – After skating two season with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL, Tomas Hyka  is headed to Farjestad to compete in the Elitserien League. Hyka regressed slightly in his second QMJHL season posting 20 goals and 54 points in 49 games, which was 10 less points than his rookie campaign. Look for Hyka to spend a few seasons honing his skills competing against men in the SHL. Brendan Ross

February 2013 – Hyka has failed to take the next step in his development. Even though he has 19 goals and 51 points in 45 games, he needs to be more productive to overcome his small frame if he hopes to get on the NHL radar. Eric Daoust

November 2012 – As with most undersized forwards, Tomas Hyka will have a tough road to the NHL but the talent is there and he is plenty fast as a skater. In his first season in the QMJHL, he led Gatineau with 64 points in 50 games, earning himself a sixth-round selection by Los Angeles as an overage player.  The 2012-13 season has not been as successful thus far as he has only netted 13 points in 15 games. He will need to continue overachieving moving forward to overcome his lack of size to latch on to an NHL roster. Eric Daoust

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Hyka will have to make the Golden Knights in the next year or two or else consider him a bust.
