Drafted 2012 by Tampa Bay Lightning, 71st Overall

June 2017 - After the completion of the AHL regular season, the Swiss forward attended the World Championship tournament to represent his homeland rather than continuing to be a healthy scratch for the Crunch throughout the playoffs. The Lightning had very high hopes for the 2012 third-round-pick coming into his most recent season. Although he did receive a short audition with the Lightning, his weak performance through the season was not enough to keep pace with the organizations depth. Richard signed a contract with the Swiss league's Geneve-Servette Hockey Club where he will play next year. The Lightning will retain his NHL rights for next season, at the end of which he will become an unrestricted free-agent. Brayden Olafson

September 2016 - Although only 23 years old, Tanner Richard will be playing in his 5th season with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization when the season gets underway next month. Richard has established himself as a small, quick forward who can chip in offensively but needs to present himself more in his own end in order to make the jump to the NHL level. Max Marko

February 2014 - Richard's production has fared somewhat better recently, posting seven points in his last 15 games on a team struggling to find ways to win. He's shown flashes of the playmaking ability but is still adjusting to the higher tempo of the American Hockey League and needs to work on his game-to-game consistency. Randall Buschmann

January 2014 - Richard has struggled in his first full season as a professional. In 35 games with Syracuse, he's yet to score a goal and has produced only six assists while playing on either the third or fourth line. Quite a ways to go before he'll be considered to have fantasy value in any league format. Randall Buschmann

October 2013 - Richard is starting his first full season of pro hockey with Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate in Syracuse. The gritty playmaking forward will be given the opportunity to step up in place of some of the team's top players who graduated to the Lightning. Randall Buschmann

April 2013 – Tanner Richard has been signed to a three-year entry level contract by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brendan Ross

April 2013 – Richard finished off his junior career with 11 goals, 51 assists for 62 points in 52 regular season games and added three assists in five playoff games for the Guelph Storm before getting eliminated by Kitchener in the first round of the OHL playoffs. Now that the season is over for him, the Syracuse Crunch or the Lightning could sign him to a contract/amateur tryout. Richard is a highly skilled import forward currently playing with the Guelph Storm (drafted 28th overall in the 2011 Import Draft). Known for his strong two-way play, he also has the potential to become a dangerous playmaker. He is a pass-first, unselfish player who is not afraid to get in the dirty areas and stick up for his teammates. His hard compete level and well-balanced game makes him a valuable asset to coaches. Although he has proven to be an offensive asset in Guelph, it is unseen whether he can translate this skill moving forward. He is said to lack a dynamic aspect in his game and will also need to add more muscle to properly adapt to the pro game. Is somewhat reluctant to shoot, although possessing a strong shot. Kevin Won

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Still young, Richard has a lot of players ahead of him due to the deep prospect core of the Lightning. May never develop into a top-six playmaking forward, but a gritty top-nine forward who can provide 30-40 points and PIM is a more accurate projection.
