Observations:

June, 2014 – Steven Whitney spent this season with the Admirals, posting 23 points in 65 games. He spent most of his time in a supporting role, playing with the likes of Charles Sarault, Max Friberg, and Dave Steckel. His most productive months were in October and November, in which he scored six goals and eight assists over 22 games. With a lot of other prospects almost NHL ready and primed for a position with the big team, Whitney will have to assume a larger role next season. The potential for the diminutive forward is there, but he will need to work on his consistency –Kevin Won

May, 2013 – Stephen Whitney is a pint-sized forward with a ton of offensive skill. This season was spent with Boston College, where he got 26 goals and 19 assists in 38 games. His 26 goals was good for the nation's second leading goal scorer. During his tenure at Boston College, the team also won four Beanpot titles as well as two NCAA titles. Whitney also won the Walter Brown Award (best American-born college player in New England) and was named to the All-America East First team. Small and tenacious, Whitney is a threat in all three zones. He is willing to play physical and isn't afraid of getting into the dirty areas. His exceptional leadership and clutch performances excited many NHL teams. Whitney eventually elected to sign with the Anaheim Ducks in April of 2013. He played in eight games and scored four points in his short stint with Norfolk. Expect Whitney to be in Norfolk full-time next season. The likes of Pat Maroon and Devante Smith-Pelly are ahead of him in the depth chart, so it will be difficult for him to get any NHL time in the near future.

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Has some work to do, but has raw talent. Small forwards are very hard to project, but has the potential to be a top-six forward.
