Observations:

May 2014 – Jones had a fairly successful rookie season for the Predators. He played top three minutes and contributed a respectable 25 points in 77 games played. One point of concern for Jones was a minus-23 which was one of the league’s worst. He also seemed to fade a little down the stretch after a strong start to the season, which makes sense given the amount of minutes he was fed. That being said, Jones flashed moments of brilliance and it shouldn’t be long before he strings together an elite fantasy season. Jones is currently participating at the IIHF World Championships where he is having a fantastic tournament leading all defencemen in scoring. Donesh Mazloum

October 2013 – Jones has had a spectacular start to his NHL career thus far. Since Roman Josi went down with a concussion in the second game of the season, Jones has thrived playing alongside Preds captain Shea Weber. He leads all rookies in ice time per game, playing over 24 minutes a night, and carries with him a positive plus/minus. His two goals and five points also gives him a share of the rookie defenceman scoring lead. Jones’ potential is through the roof and he clearly has the trust of coach Trotz. Jones is a solid option in one year leagues and is a must own in keeper formats. Donesh Mazloum

July 2013 – Seth Jones became the fourth 2013 draft pick to sign his 3 year entry level contract. Donesh Mazloum

July 2013 – The top ranked North American skater according to central scouting, Jones surprisingly fell to the Nashville Predators at fourth in the 2013 entry draft. Prior to the draft, GM David Poile declared Jones the best player available and was naturally ecstatic when Jones was available at four. Jones joins an organization known for developing high end defensive talent and should thrive under Barry Trotz. Jones will step into the lineup immediately and if given powerplay time could be a solid fantasy option sooner rather than later. Donesh Mazloum

June 2013 – As Colorado Avalanche beat writer reported on June 18th, 2013, it appears that Joe Sakic and the Avalanche are looking at other options other than top ranked defenseman Seth Jones for the upcoming 2013 NHL Entry Draft. “If we do pick first, we’re leaning more toward one of those three forwards (MacKinnon, Drouin or Barkov) ” is what Joe Sakic told the Denver Post. With a glaring need for defensive help and a surplus of centreman, it will be interesting to see which player the Avalanche select in the first slot or whether they trade down. Brendan Ross

May 2013 – Seth Jones was named the Top Prospect of the Year in the Canadian Hockey League after posting 14 goals and 56 points for the Memorial Cup finalists Portland Winterhawks. Jones finished the regular season off with an outstanding plus-46 rating. The Texas native helped propel his Winterhawks team to a WHL Championship and a spot within the coveted CHL Memorial Cup Championship, where he led his team straight to the final game only to be defeated by the Halifax Mooseheads. Seth Jones is the unanimous top ranked defenseman for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and is arguably the top rated player for the annual draft. Jones is a franchise defenseman who will provide your fantasy team with above-average offensive production from the blueline and years of stability. Brendan Ross

December 2012 – In his first WHL season, Jones has proved his worth as an elite NHL draft prospect. The big, rangy defenseman has not only been rock solid in his own zone, but has also been a consistent contributor to the Portland Winterhawks’ attack. After a bit of a slow start offensively, Jones now has 28 points in 31 games. He is also a plus-27.  Jones has been named to Team USA’s entry at the 2013 World Junior Championship. He will certainly turn more than a few heads on the world stage after missing last year’s tournament with a shoulder injury. Zenon Herasymiuk
