Welcome to the Thursday ramblings (anyone else super thrown off by the holidays?), I did a World Junior Championship pool with four other friends again, and now I will go over it. Yay. Rejoice.
Stats are simple: Pick all Canadian players and one international player (no goalies) in a snake style draft, one point for a goal, assist and game winning (or shootout game winning) goal. I have to make it on google drive and will share the link below.
You get points throughout the round robin, and in playoffs UNLESS your team loses, so Bronze medal game does not get you any points.
Team 1 (first pick)
1 – Jack Hughes (2019)
***No idea how in a Canada centric hockey pool you don’t pick a top line Canadian but okay
2 – Studnicka (BOS)
3 – Bouchard (EDM)
4 – Bowers (COL)
5 – Brook (MTL)
Team 2 (Me)
1 – Comtois (ANA)
Picked him because … well essentially I had the first Canadian pick and It was between Comtois and Glass for me. Choosing between members of the Canadian top line and saving international players for last is easy since there are so many awesome players not on Canada.
2 – Lafreniere (2020)
I had to take him and all the hype that is surrounding him. It is unknown how much Tim Hunter will use him but he has tremendous skill and can put up points if given the ice time. Was this perhaps a touch too high, yes, BUT I got a gift with my next pick.
3 – Frost (PHI)
This was my gift. Frost is amazing. I think him being projected to be on line three was scary to the other four but I was not frightened. Also (plus don’t mind my spelling/butchering of names):
Frost or Glass (if lafriener has no ice time)— PQsFantasyHockey (@FHPQuinn) December 3, 2018
4 – Smith (NJD)
I am a Devils homer and there were not many Canadian left. Also he is/was on #1PP thankfully.
5 – Kravtsov (NYR)
Figured I would take one of the better Russian players to play in the tournament, and Kravtsov should be among the top point producers.
Other options I considered: Brannstrom, Boqvist, Tolvanen, Kupari, Kakko, Kostin, Denisenko, Podkolzin, Marchenko, Morozov, Zetterlund, and Heponiemi. To name a few
1 – Glass (VGK)
2 – Quinn Hughes (VAN)
***Is Team 3 Cam Robinson? Nope, not even a Canucks fan. Weird I know.
3 – Entwistle (CHI)
4 – Dobson (NYI)
5 – Mitchell (CHI)
1 – Suzuki (MTL)
2 – Zadina (DET)
3 – Hayton (ARI)
4 – Leason (2019)
5 – McIsaac (DET)
1 – Tippett (FLA)
2 – Anderson-Dolan (LAK)
3 – Phillips (LAK)
4 – Veleno (DET)
5 – Heponiemi (FLA)
***Did I influence this person to have a good pick because of drinking… maybe….
