The trade deadline has come and gone, most people are paying attention to the big deals on deadline day. But let’s bring you up to date with the deals that no one talks about. There were some AHL trades made on or just before deadline day, below is a list of some of the trades. There is only one trade that could be significant at the NHL level. A small write-up follows that trade.

February 25th:

To Tampa Bay Lightning

F – Stefan Fournier

To Arizona Coyotes

F – Jeremy Morin

February 28th:

To New York Rangers

F – Daniel Catenacci

To Buffalo Sabres

D – Mat Bodie

March 1st:

To Colorado Avalanche

F – Brendan Ranford

To Arizona Coyotes

F – Joe Whitney

*

To Colorado Avalanche

G – Joe Cannata

To Washington Capitals

D – Cody Corbett

*

To New York Rangers

F – Taylor Beck

To Edmonton Oilers

F – Justin Fontaine

Oilers acquire Fontaine, who had a regular spot with the Minnesota Wild from 2013-2016, he was signed by the Rangers at the beginning of this season, but never made the Rangers lineup. He is a good depth guy that could see bottom-six minutes with the Oilers in the next month or so. He has 30 points in 50 AHL games this year with the Hartford Wolf Pack, he will begin his Oilers career in Bakersfield.

Taylor Beck will be playing for his fourth AHL team in the last two years. He had very few NHL minutes with the Nashville Predators from 2012-2015 and couldn't hold down a roster spot. In the AHL he has put up 0.75 points per game in 215 games played, only 0.25 points/game in 23 NHL games. He likely won't crack the Rangers lineup this year, but if he continues his AHL scoring pace (50pts in 40gp), he could get a look at an NHL roster spot next year

Below is a list of prospects who were in more significant NHL trades on deadline day and what organization they are headed to and if they will have an impact to their NHL careers.

Nikolay Goldobin traded to Vancouver, the Canucks bolster their prospect pool acquiring Goldobin from the Sharks, Goldobin is a former first round pick, and has 41 points in 46 games played in the AHL this year.

Sven Andrighetto traded to Colorado

Andreas Martinsen traded to Montreal

Dylan McIlrath traded to Detroit, the Red Wings add McIlrath as a long term depth defensemen option, he may see some NHL time, but not very likely, as of right now.

Dillon Heatherington traded to Dallas

Frank Corrado traded to Pittsburgh, the Penguins needed some more capable NHL depth on their back end. Adding Corrado at the deadline gives them another young NHL option, who will begin his Penguins career with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Jyrki Jokipakka traded to Ottawa, the Senators add to their defensive prospect pool, Jokipakka could see more minutes in Ottawa than when he was in Calgary. A quick Flames career, 18 games, might give him a jolt that he needs to pick up his game.
