Observations

April 2019 – Hintz is closing off a strong season with the Dallas Stars by playing in their playoff run. He has spent time in both the NHL and AHL, where in the NHL he compiled nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points in 58 games. He has been impressive for the Stars; he has a good combination of speed and size making him a real threat on the wing. Along with his lethal speed, he also has an extremely high hockey IQ. This enables him to make highly skilled plays and he has the potential to be an offensive difference-maker in the future. Stars fans should be on the lookout for Hintz as he has all the intangibles to be a strong player for the Stars in the near future. Brandon Floyd

October 2018 – After playing in the first five games of the season for the Stars, Hintz has been sent down to the AHL. Coach Montgomery was not impressed by his effort, specifically when given the opportunity to play on the top line with Seguin and Benn. Montgomery explained the decision by saying, “he wasn’t playing with a purpose out there like he was when he made the team.” Hintz will need to prove himself once again in the minors before he is able to return to the big club. Nate Duffett

October 2018- After a very successful preseason where Hintz managed to insert his name into the conversation for one of the Stars’ forward spots while putting up points and playing top line minutes, he has come back down to earth now that the real season has started. Zero points in four games, while only averaging 10 minutes of ice per game on the fourth line. While it was expected that Hintz would not be able to maintain his torrid pace from the preseason, he will look to try and regain some of that scoring touch before he is forced out of the lineup permanently after already receiving some healthy scratches in the young season. Hintz is sure to be a fantasy sleeper in the coming years as he is not a household name in prospect circles, so it may be a good time to buy him at a lower price. However, it is only recommended in deeper dynasty leagues as he may not be a huge contributor for a chunk of this current season.  Hintz did get a spin with Seguin and Benn while Radulov was hurt so there’s some promise there. Nate Duffett

March 2018 – Hintz has spent the year in the AHL, notching 27 points in 53 games. He’s not knocking down any doors with point production, but he possesses the ability to develop in to a great scorer. Matt Kowalski

January 2017 – Hintz has had a shortened season for HIFK in the Liiga due to injury. When he’s played, he has produced. Eleven goals and eight assists in 34 games hints at his offensive ability. He’s a great distributor and skater who should be an intriguing player if he continues to develop. Matt Kowalski

May 2016 – Hintz had a very strong draft+1 year. In 33 regular season games with eventual Liiga championship runner-up HIFK, he popped eight goals and dished out 12 assists, both marks equalling or exceeding his previous years totals. In the playoffs, he posted a respectable two goals and four assists in 18 games. No doubt the highlight of Hintz’s season was winning world junior gold, where he was arguably Suomi’s best player outside of the big three. Already blessed with NHL-calibre hair, he’s signed for one more year in Finland so don’t expect to see Hintz in North American until 2017-18. Brad Phillips January 2016 – Hintz had a solid 2016 WJHC for the gold medal winning home squad scoring three goals and an assist. After being relatively quiet for Finland during the preliminary round and the quarter final, Hintz stepped up in a bit way when it counted most. During the semi-finals against rival Sweden he was arguably Finland’s best player notching a goal on five shots. Similarly he was all over the ice in the gold medal game against Russia and had a few dangerous scoring chances. Brad Phillips

December 2015 – Hintz will represent the home squad in Helsinki for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship. He’s rounding into mid-season form after returning from an injury. Finland will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing seventh place finish at last years tournament. Brad Phillips

November 2015 – Hintz’ season, and debut with his new team HIFK Helsinski, got off to a bit of a delayed start thanks to a back injury that kept him sidelined, missing a good chunk of the season in the process. So far he’s only suited up for three games, where he has posted one assist. A bit of time may be needed in order to round into top form but he’ll get there. Brad Phillips

June 2015 – With plenty of offensive upside, Hintz could work his way quickly up the Dallas depth chart, but he must seize his opportunities. Dobber

June 2015 – Hintz absolutely tore up the Jr A (U20) league in Finland in the 2013-14 season with 38 points in 28 games and with Ilves’ top club in Liiga, he posted five goals and 12 assists in 42 games. While not bad numbers offensively Hintz receive limited power play time so his numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt. Playing at 6-2, one might expect Hintz to be somewhat physical but he is rarely engaged and it’s rare that he initiates contact. His skating is good for a man of his size and he is a skilled energy player even though he doesn’t dish out the body like one may think an energy player would. Benjamin Gallant
