October 2018 – At just 19 years of age, Miro has already earned a top-four role on a very skilled Dallas Stars team, as well as being one of two defensemen on the team’s powerplay units. He has impressed early with his smarts and ability to move the puck up the ice quickly and easily. These traits translate very well to the offensive side of his game which is an asset to the fantasy players among us. Even though the stats are not there at this point in the season, it is only a small sample size. His offensive instincts will eventually have him linking up with the Stars high-scoring forwards. Heiskanen should be a player to anchor the Dallas Stars defence corps and your fantasy team for many years to come. Nate Duffett
December 2017 – Heiskanen was an easy choice for team Finland in the World Junior Championship, as he is the teams top defenseman. He collected two assists in the win over Denmark, in which Finland outshot Denmark a remarkable 62 to 7. This is the guy the entire Stars organization is watching during the World Junior Championship so it will be interesting to see how he performs. While playing in 20 games in Finland’s Liiga, he has scored nine goals. He’s proving his two-way reputation in Finland. Obviously the Stars want Heiskanen at least to play for their AHL affiliate next year to get him acclimated to the professional game in America. Matt Kowalski
September 2017 – It was announced early in camp that Miro had suffered a concussion and that he will go back and play the season in the Finnish Liiga. He may have had a chance to make the team out of camp, but with so many options currently in the system they wisely chose to be patient. It doesn’t appear to be anything that will change his future value to the Dallas Stars organization. Matt Kowalski
June 2017 – Heiskanen is elite skating defenceman with plenty of speed and mobility. Already playing against men in Liiga he is an excellent puck mover and transition defenceman. His offensive ceiling is not too high and he may never quarterback the powerplay but he has good hockey sense, is ahead of his years in his defensive play. Heiskanen needs to add some bulk to his slight frame to be effective in North America but he is already proven at the pro level and may have a shorter path to the NHL than some other draft eligible defencemen.
