May 2020 – Despite being touted as an offensive defenceman prior to being drafted, Jokiharju has become a defensive blue liner for the Buffalo Sabres. As of the 2019-2020 season, he plays on his team’s penalty kill, but not on the powerplay. He possesses fair strength, tracks his opponent and the puck well, and often looks first to contain the opposition behind his own goal line and in his crease. He is an astute shot blocker as well. He scored four goals and 15 points in 69 games with the Sabres, and averaged 17:13 of ice time per game. Kevin Wong

January 2019 – Henri Jokiharju is having a solid campaign. In 49 games played, the Finnish right-handed defenseman has tallied four goals and nine assists. While Jokiharju’s offensive numbers are not fantasy appealing, he is the best Sabres defenseman when you look at his expected goals against per-60 versus his expected goals for per 60. He has a higher expected goals for per-60 than Rasmus Ristolainen, Rasmus Dahlin and Brandon Montour. If Jokiharju is not owned in your league, you should add him to your lineup as he could be due for a strong second half. Josh Tessler

September 2019 – Henri Jokiharju was acquired earlier this summer. The Buffalo Sabres stocked up on right-handed defensemen this off-season and their defensive core looks a lot better than last year. Last season, Jokiharju split his time between the NHL and the AHL. During his 30 game stint in the AHL, he was lights out. He mustered up two goals and 15 assists with the Rockford Ice Hogs. Unfortunately for the Finnish prospect, he could not find the back of the net with the Blackhawks but managed to do so in the AHL. While Jokiharju will likely contribute a few goals each season (mostly on special teams), his true bread and butter is his passing. Jokiharju’s puck distribution is quite sound as he has a knack of delivering the puck crisply around the zone. At the moment, he does not have a spot in the Sabres lineup. Rasmus Ristolainen, Brandon Montour and Colin Miller have a firm hold on the right side. If the Sabres manage to trade Ristolainen, Jokiharju could have a spot on the third pairing. The Sabres could also experiment with playing Jokiharju on the left side. The Chicago Blackhawks tried doing that last season, so he does have some experience on the left. If Jokiharju does find a permanent spot in the lineup, you can certainly count on the Oulu, Finland native to be a solid fantasy contributor. With his elite passing, he will be able to tally assist after assist. Josh Tessler

July 2019 – Jokiharju has been traded from Chicago to Buffalo in exchange for Alex Nylander.  Jokke Nevalainen

February 2019- Jokiharju has been recalled by the Blackhawks from his stint in Rockford. He has used this time in the AHL well, tying for the second most points by a defenceman since being sent down, while playing big minutes in all situations. Hopefully his confidence is as high as it was after winning gold at the 2019 WJHC with Team Finland. Tony Carr

March 2018- Jokiharju has been named Portland’s “Best Defensive Player” for the 2017/18 season. He led all Portland defenseman in scoring with 71 points and his +47 rating was tops on the team. Tony Carr

March 2018- Jokiharju continues to roll along in Portland, putting points on the board seemingly every night while shutting down the opposition’s top producers. After a solid WJHC, the next step in his evolution will be an extended run in the WHL playoffs while maintaining his elite level of play. Tony Carr

December 2017- Jokiharju has looked great playing with Portland of the WHL and has received an invite to the Finish world junior training camp to the surprise of no one. Averaging over a point per game thus far, he is also sitting at a whopping +27. When Jokiharju is on the ice, the puck tends to stay out of the defensive end. Tony Carr

September 2017- Jokiharju was assigned to Portland of the WHL. All signs were positive through his time at prospects camp and the start of the main camp, seeing action in a preseason game. Smart decisions in the defensive end combined with solid offensive skills earned him the extended look. Expect a great start to this season. Tony Carr

June 2017 – The freshly turned 18-year-old is your prototypical new age defender. He’s not the biggest player but skates well, offers solid offensive awareness and promising defensive zone coverage. His U18 tournament left scouts with the impression that he can step up in big games and consistently make safe plays. Always quick to make a smart outlet pass, Jokiharju is also adept at skating the puck out of the defensive end and pushing the pace to set up offensive chances.

He should be selected in the latter portion of Round One or early in the second. Cam Robinson
