March 2022 – Mattheos has been having a very quiet, underwhelming season in the AHL, as most of his AHL time has been. In 49 games he has mustered a goal and five assists for six points. His last two seasons in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings had him put up over 90 points. He plays with an edge, and could see some time in the bottom six with the big club at some point in his career, but he doesn’t seem to be translating his high octane offense to the professional circuit at this point. Alex Wyatt

March 2021 – Mattheos was recently sent down to the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL after struggling to stay in the Chicago Wolves lineup. He had two assists in six games but with the Wolves being dual affiliated this season it made sense to send him down to get more regular playing time. Mattheos has played in three games for the Komets but has yet to register a point. – Austin Broad
March 2020 – While he has only played in 12 games this year, Mattheos tallied two goals in a win over Hershey this past weekend, giving him 5 points on the year. Mattheos has a chance to make a significant impact for the Checkers as the playoffs approach as well as next year. Jack LeGwin

April 2019 – Mattheos stellar career in the WHL came to a close in March with his best junior hockey campaign to date. The talented pivot recorded career highs in goals (44), assists (52) and points (96), while sweeping all the major season long awards from his club in Brandon. Mattheos signed his three-year entry level deal with Carolina following the Wheat Kings being eliminated from playoff contention and took his talents straight to the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. With Charlotte likely making a long run in the Calder Cup playoffs, the young center should earn valuable experience to use towards cracking an NHL roster, likely in 2021 or 2022. Kevin LeBlanc

March 2018 – After being drafted by the Hurricanes in June, Mattheos was a candidate to have a breakout 2017-18 with Nolan Patrick leaving Brandon for the NHL. The tenacious center has not disappointed. Mattheos posted 90 points in 68 games, which was a 29-point jump from his draft eligible season. Pairing the offensive ability with an aggressive net front presence, a high-volume shooting mentality and acumen in the face-off circle makes the Winnipeg native a player to watch for the future. As a candidate to return to junior for his overage season, Mattheos will need to spend some time in the AHL before jumping to the NHL. When he does, he will be a good bottom nine-option that could be a mulit-category fantasy asset. Kevin LeBlanc
