June 2022 – Bouchard, who just completed his first full season with the Oilers, was not considered an official NHL rookie last season after suiting up in 21 games over the previous three campaigns. Nevertheless, the young defender had an excellent year in Edmonton recording 12 goals and 43 points in 81 games. His season was especially impressive when you factor in that he was not a mainstay on the Oilers’ 1PP. Despite his strong year, the offensive minded defender essentially flew under the radar and did not receive much attention for some reason. While creating offence is Bouchard’s bread and butter, defending can be a bit of a challenge at times. While he is improving in that regard and learning to be more assertive, he still has a ways to go before he will be considered consistent in his own end. With all that said, the 22-year-old continues to trend in the right direction and it is looking like he has the potential to be a top-pair defender in the NHL in the near future. If you have the opportunity to invest in this player, from a fantasy perspective, consider him a safe option with high upside. Jameson Ewasiuk

Evan Bouchard: Simply put, no Oilers’ prospect outside of the NHL had a better 2019-2020 season than Bouchard. To briefly describe his campaign last year, Bouchard was tied for second on the Condors in points, had more than double the points of the Condors’ next defender, he was third in all AHL rookie defender scoring, 11th for all rookies and he was 10th in all AHL defenseman scoring. The offense has always been the name of the game for Bouchard
