June 2022 – There is an old adage, that if you’re not producing as an offensive player with defensive shortcomings, then you’re not going to be long for the NHL. Brännström has spent parts of the past four seasons with Ottawa in the NHL and played the most games in one season last year with 53. Unfortunately he had only 14 assists but made some strides defensively. He is still only 22-years-old and has only played 116 NHL games, so patience with him is needed. Grant Campbell

October 2020 – Erik Brännström has been loaned to the SCL Tigers in the NLA (Swiss league). This is just to get him playing games and continuing his development at a time when the AHL is a bit uncertain. He should be challenging for an NHL spot in camp after an up-and-down year in 2019-20. He had some very good moments at the NHL level and some tough ones and his AHL time was much the same. Brännström is in a similar spot to many Senators prospects as he seems to be right on the brink of becoming a fulltime NHLer and this upcoming season will be a pivotal one for the skilled blueliner.
