Observations:

August 2017 – The St. Louis Blues signed Pääjärvi a one-year, one way $800,000.00 contract. Pääjärvi has shown streaks of superb play followed by periods of far less obvious successful play.  This season is a make or break season for him.  He will either prosper or he will be another candidate for heading back to the SHL or KHL.

 

January 2016 – Paajarvi has played in 32 games this season for the Blues, and recently was placed on the DL. He hasn’t produced much in the form of points, but he has generated 55 shots on goal and averaged a little over 13 minutes a game. The Blues seem committed to giving time to Paajarvi, and he appears ahead of Rattie on their priority list. At times he has been paired with Tarasenko and Stastny this season, which makes him of particular interest. Keep an eye on his health status and the line Hitch has him paired with. If given the right set of circumstances, he could explode with fantasy production. Matt Kowalski

 

September 2013 – Paajarvi was traded to the St. Louis Blues for David Perron. Although he is out of Edmonton, where he was buried by their tremendous depth of young, skilled forwards – St. Louis is not much better. The Blues are also deep, and a defensive team to boot. Outlook is not very good for Paajarvi and it would take strong chemistry with a talented center in order for him to reach his potential. Otherwise, and the likely scenario – a third-line checker. April 2013 – Paajarvi jumped onto the scene as a 19 year old in 2010 producing 15 goals and 34 points in a full 80 game campaign for the lowly Edmonton Oilers. Since then he has frustrated fans and fantasy managers alike with what he has the ability to do, and what he has produced thus far. He has flashed of Alexander Mogilny like power and speed, but fails to use it often enough at this point. He has bounced up and down the past couple seasons between the AHL and NHL toying with managements emotions with him. In a very poor start this season, rumors were starting to arise that Paajarvi was on the edge of being dangled by the organization in an effort to pull in a couple needs of the Oilers roster as they have flirted with playoff potential. He needs to work on utilizing his tool bag of talents and make consistent efforts in all games he plays at all levels. As long as Paajarvi is in Oiler’s uniform and getting opportunities with the likes of Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov, he has the potential to post high end goal totals when his game fully comes together.

 

 

Fantasy Outlook: D+

He has a full arsenal of weapons to become one of the NHL’s better ‘rush scorers’, but consistency has been a question mark.
