June 2019 – Bergman did not get a qualifying offer from the Rangers which means he becomes an unrestricted free agent.  Jokke Nevalainen

February 2019 – Bergman has been traded again, this time going from Columbus to the Rangers. He’s also signed to play in the SHL next season. His time as legitimate NHL prospect is likely over.  Jokke Nevalainen

February 2019 – Bergman has been traded from Ottawa to Columbus in the Duchene deal.  Jokke Nevalainen

June 2018 – Bergman, along with Mikkel Boedker and a draft pick, was acquired from the San Jose Sharks in a trade that saw Mike Hoffman shipped out of town. A former second round pick of the Sharks four years ago, Bergman hasn’t yet gotten a sniff of NHL action spending three full pro seasons at the AHL level, producing 61 points in 190 career games. But that could change with a move to Ottawa as Pierre Doirion had this to day upon acquiring the Swede “Julius is a young defenceman with size and can move the puck. He’ll help our organization depth of defence and we think he has a chance to play NHL games for us in the future.” For Doirion’s part, he better hope Bergman does. Time will tell. Brad Phillips

June 2018 – Although he has developed into a steady two way defender in the AHL, the Sharks would surely like to see a bit more offense from Julius Bergman. The potential is there, although his numbers have stagnated. He put up 20 points with the Barracuda last season, 10 less than the year prior. He did however improve in the goal scoring department posting 10 goals. Bergman has a nice shot from the point and regularly gets it through to the net, he also has great size and uses it to his advantage. Chris Legg

May 2017 – It has been interesting to watch the development of Bergman this season. He has grown into a responsible AHL defenseman while helping offset the occasional misplays of his season-long partner Mirco Muller. In the playoffs, Bergman is tied for first among Barracuda defenders in points with seven points (all assists) in the first 10 games for San Jose. It remains to be seen if additional, reliable offensive ability will materialize but his steady trajectory over the past two seasons is a positive. He’s also shown he is not afraid of mixing it up with the opposition and playing with more sandpaper in him than previously seen. Zachary DeVine

January 2017 – Bergman already eclipsed his 2015-16 point (11) total and needed only 27 games to do so. What is impressive about the former London Knight is that every week he seems to get better. The improvement has been steady for the 2014 second-round selection. His confidence with the puck has improved, his defensive tenacity and positioning especially have both been better and are continuing on an upward trend. The 6-1 Swede partners with Mirco Mueller nearly exclusively and many nights, Bergie is the better of the two. Bergman’s development at just 21 years of age is on schedule, and he’ll continue to improve with the Barracuda this year. Zachary DeVine

October 2016 – Bergman struggles last year for the Barracuda have been well documented, as were his recovery from them. Early in the year he simply was not playing well, was having difficulty adjusting to the speed of the game, and had a hard time getting into and staying in the San Jose line-up. Towards the end of the year, Bergman has solidified his spot on the Barracuda and helped them make a late-season push for the playoffs. Coming into camp, Bergman looked a bit leaner and increased confidence with the puck. He still has some room to mature physically as well and should be a fixture on the Barracuda defense this season. Zachary DeVine

August 2015 – Julius Bergman completed a strong 2014-15 season that saw him play big minutes as a rookie for the London Knights; represent Sweden at the WJC-20 tournament and suit up for his pro debut with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. Bergman displayed the poise and two-way play that made him a second round pick back in 2014, but he also added a further element of offence that the Sharks are surely to be happy with. at 6’1 and 195 lbs. Bergman has a solid frame to build around and projects to be a competent second pairing defenseman. He will come to camp looking to force the issue, but fans should expect to see him down the road playing for the AHL Barracuda. Cameron Robinson

February 2015 – Bergman`s upside is in his ability to skate with the puck. Other strengths include outlet passes in the defensive and neutral zones. One of the concerns with Bergman is that the physical component to his game will not translate in higher levels, due to his size. Bergman plays an up tempo game but is prone to risky pinches in the offensive zone that often result in odd man rushes against his team.  David Harrison
