June 2017– The 21-year old defender, MacLeod, was voted the Terrier's most improved player at Boston University in the 2016-17 season. His offensive production has seen little to no progression since he was drafted in the second round of 2014. The stay-at-home defender, who was scratched periodically throughout the year will be a senior at BU next season. He will likely earn more playing time in his final year of college development, and potentially a contract with the Lightning where he will compete with Erik Cernak for a top-6 shut-down role over the next several seasons. June 2014 – There is a lot to like with American defenseman Johnathan MacLeod as he possesses great leadership skills, an exciting physical game and stifling defensive approach. He’s an astute defensive presence and because of that, his offensive skills often get overlooked but there’s promising upside there. Whether or not MacLeod will produce fantasy worthy numbers has yet to be determined but his ability to transition the puck up the ice with strong safe outlet passes can’t be overstated. Committed to Boston University and projected as a potential top 60 selection for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Brendan Ross

Fantasy Outlook: C -

MacLeod’s best assets are his size, physicality and defensive acumen so he may never develop into a fantasy hockey stud but he’s a safe prospect to make the big show. His ability to provide peripheral stats should complement his modest point production well in most leagues.
