Observations:

February 2014 – After doing very well in the SEL over the past few years, he has struggled to adjust the the AHL while playing with the terrible Utica Comets. After posting point totals similar to Enstrom, Kronwall and Ohlund at similar ages, he has fallen off that trajectory. Two of the aforementioned three went immediately to the NHL and the other put up a .5ppg pace in the AHL before heading to the big league. While he is leading the Canucks professional defence prospects in points, that is faint praise. He has 12 points in 39 games and sports a team-worst minus-18. He has looked good on the powerplay, and while it may be tempting to lost faith in a 23 year old prospect struggling at the AHL level, it would be wise to give him another year before giving up on him. March 2013 – Tommernes is quickly making a name for himself in all three zones on the ice in Sweden. A skilled skating defenseman, he is accurate on his outlet passes as well as moving the puck through the neutral zone. He has an accurate shot with a nice scoring touch through traffic in front of the net. The biggest thing working against Tommernes is a lack of physicality. He needs to be able to clear the slot and stand players up at the blue line, which he has yet to show a knack for. If Tommernes wants a NHL team to take a serious look at him, he needs to get aggressive. Pete Richmere

 

Fantasy Outlook: D

 

As good shooter and skater, Tommernes can use a bit of controlled meanness in his game. He cannot be afraid to open up his goalies line of vision by clearing out opponents and making the slot a tough place to stand. The potential PP QB has a long way to go to make an impact in the NHL.
