Observations:

January  2016 – Graham Black has struggled to produce offensively in the AHL; in his rookie season he mustered  up a marginal 14 points in 46 games. The struggle continues this year as he only managed two goals and an assist in 20 games. It's starting to look as if Black will never make it to the NHL unless he can turn the corner and become the offensive threat he once was with the Swift Current Broncos for the Albany Devils. Justin Nobre

February 2014 – For a fifth-round selection, Graham Black could be a steal for New Jersey. The tenacious forward has tremendous speed and plays a solid two-way game. His acceleration and edge work separate him from his peers. Black is currently playing for the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL and is leading the team in scoring with 68 points in 50 games. Of his 26 goals, only 8 of them have come on the power play. This is a testament to his responsible efforts at both ends of the ice. He’s also not afraid to drop the gloves (see below). Since joining the club during the 2010-2011 season, Black has successfully contributed offensively with consecutive 50-point seasons. It appears that he has improved his game even further this season, helping his team maintain a playoff position (currently fifth in the Eastern Conference). His transition to the Albany Devils of the AHL will tell us more about what kind of future is in store. Chris Bagwell

 

Fantasy Outlook: C-

The chances that a fifth-round pick plays at least 100 games in the NHL is about 12 per cent. With some work in the weight room, he has the potential to become a productive third-line center.
