January 2017- Gambrell's junior season is nearly the same last year: solid two-way play on the second line, chipping in goal while creating offensive chances for his line mates. The 22-year-old pivot entered the Christmas break with six goals and 16 assists in 19 matches so far. But will he leave school a year early to turn pro? That will be something to watch as there has been plenty of room with the Barracuda in the middle and opportunity abounds over the next few years as the aging roster looks to find who is part of the Sharks plan moving forward. February 2017 – Sophomore center Dylan Gambrell is just off the pace (1.14P/GM last season and 1.04P/GM this year) of his impressive rookie year with the Denver Pioneers but with the team constantly at the top of the national rankings and a few injuries the sophomore slump is understandable. The Pioneers look well positioned to make some noise in the NCAA championship. It will be interesting to see if the Sharks make an attempt to sign Gambrell. If he does sign, it could be a boost for the Barracuda's playoff hopes as well. Zachary DeVine

June 2016 – The San Jose Sharks went off the board to select center Dylan Gambrell with the 60th overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Gambrell will be 20 years of age in August, and this was his final year of draft eligibility. Gambrell is known as a complete center with very good on-ice vision, solid hockey sense and high compete level.  His offensive upside at the professional ranks are a question mark, and Gambrell is a player that is likely still 2-3 years from an NHL debut despite his advanced age. In three seasons in the USHL, Gambrell scored 108 points in 172 games. In his first year in Denver, he posted 17 goals and 30 assists in 41 games, good for the 12th best rookie season in Pioneers history. Gambrell has stated he will return to Denver for his sophomore season with the Pioneers.
