Observations:

February 2017 – While it's debatable whether the miniscule blueliner will ever become an NHL regular (three points in 16 big-league games), there's no disputing the breakout campaign he's enjoying in the AHL. With 12 goals and 25 assists in 38 games, he's third in points for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as well as leading the league at plus-28. His timing is great because he's a UFA after this season. Mark Allan

October 2016 – In the absence of injured blueliners Derrick Pouliot and Kris Letang, Warsofsky has been recalled by Pittsburgh, although he's well down on the Penguins' depth chart. Mark Allan

October 2016 – The Torey Krug wannabe cleared waivers and was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL, where he might remain for the rest of the season. Mark Allan

July 2016 – David Warsofsky is back in Pittsburgh after signing a one-year, two-way contract worth $575,000. The 26 year old is a well travelled journeyman defenceman who is skilled but undersized. After starting the season in Pittsburgh last year, he was claimed off waivers by New Jersey. Warsofsky also played for Team USA at the 2016 World Championship where in ten games he posted one goal and four assists. No stranger to international hockey, Warsofsky won the Gold Medal with Team USA at the 2010 World Junior Championship, and the Bronze at the 2008 U-18 World Championship where he posted seven points. Warsofsky is worth a roster spot in deep keeper leagues with a minor league system as he has the offensive upside and a very attractive cap hit to potentially stay on the roster. Peter Harling

February 2016 – Recovered from a concussion, the pint-sized blueliner was recalled by Pittsburgh from the AHL the day before the NHL trade deadline, only to be waived the same day after the Penguins acquired defenseman Justin Schultz from the Edmonton Oilers for a third-round draft pick. New Jersey claimed Warsofsky the next day, although fans of the Devils shouldn't get their hopes very high. The 25-year-old former Boston Bruin has a mere four points in 22 NHL games over three seasons, including just one in 12 games with Pittsburgh this season. Mark Allan

November 2015 – The skilled but small defenseman was a surprise callup over Pittsburgh's top prospect, Derrick Pouliot. The former Boston Bruin farmhand has played in all 13 AHL games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording two goals, four assists and a plus-5 rating. Getting a point in five of his past seven games likely was a major factor in his promotion. The Torey Krug clone has been part of a blueline group that has helped the AHL Penguins be the stingiest team in the Eastern Conference this season. Mark Allan

March 2014 – Warsofsky got called up to the Bruins last month when captain Zdeno Chara headed off to Sochi. He’s now back with the P-Bruins, but will likely be the first call up to fill any holes on the Bruins’ D. The smooth-skating defenseman is having a solid year in Providence and has already set career highs in assists (26) and points (32). Look for Warsofsky to challenge for a spot on the Bruins’ third defensive pairing next year. Michael Boeckler

March 2012 – Warsofsky is a Boston area kid that prepped at Cushing Academy went onto win onto winning Beanpot, Hockey East, and NCAA titles in his three-year tenure at Boston University. Very skilled in the offensive zone with his vision, big shot and skating ability yet lacks true size for the NHL and his defensive chores need development. He is now with his hometown Bruins organization after rights being traded in summer of 2010 (in the Vladimir Sobotka deal).

Fantasy Outlook: D

Warsofsky has skill, but is seriously undersized and has not managed to produce meaningful offense yet at the NHL level. Projects as a bottom-pairing PP specialist, although a breakout AHL season is intriguing.
