Observations:

 

March 2013- Danny Taylor recorded his first NHL win on the 3rd vs the Canucks. Taylor faced 31 quality shots from the Canucks and managed to shut the door on 29 of them finishing with a sparkling .935 save percentage, not an easy feat with the struggling Flames in front of him this season. This win was a great showing of Taylor’s talent and quickness, his positioning was sound and he seemed to be very calm between the pipes, a stark contrast to his previous outing February 18 versus the Phoenix Coyotes, where he allowed four goals on 33 shots. Taylor still won’t be seeing much time as a goalie in the NHL, Miikka Kiprusoff is set to return in the coming weeks, and with Joey MacDonald as a tender with NHL experience, Taylor is more than certain to head back to the AHL. This is a great display of the raw talent Danny Taylor has and the goalie he is capable of becoming in the future, giving the Calgary Flames something very solid to build around. Andrew Ward

February 2013 – Danny Taylor, a British born tender, started his career with Los Angeles. Failing to impress in LA, Taylor was eventually released. Taylor signed a two-way contract with Abbottsford as a free agent and is now in his second season in the AHL. Taylor is having a fantastic year in Abbottsford with a shining .929 save percentage and a miniscule AHL leading 1.82 GAA. Taylor has been consistent in his play and has a 13-10-1 record, going 7-4-0 with one shutout in relief of Leland Irving, in his last 12 games. Positioning has been a problem for Taylor as well as his small frame but his speed, quickness and movement in the crease are among the best in the AHL. Taylor is an incredibly skilled and athletic goalie; he plays big in net despite his frame and has the athleticism to make up for his shortcomings.

 

Fantasy Outlook: B+

Taylor should thrive at the NHL level and could see more consistent time in the league next season, as the Calgary Flames have no back up set in stone. If Calgary fails to extend a contract to Taylor past this year, he should catch on somewhere else as a solid back up for a team lacking in the position.
