Observations:

June 2015 – After a solid career for Harvard University, the former Crimson captain has spent the better part of two seasons in the AHL with Charlotte. Although he hasn’t put up the offensive numbers that many had hoped over 135 AHL games, Biega played well enough situationally to earn a 10 game call-up to the Hurricanes at the end of the 2014-15 season. He recorded his first NHL point in his second NHL game, an assist on an Elias Lindholm first period goal against the New York Rangers. Coach Bill Peters was not shy about using Biega in even-strength situations where he averaged just over 16 minutes of ice time per game during his short stint, but he was not used in any special teams situations. As a shorter defenseman, Biega relies on his strength and positional instincts to win battles with forwards. He is a good puck mover with the ability to make a solid first pass out of the zone, but will not be a power-play asset at the next level. Unless Biega makes a significant jump he will likely be a fringe bottom-pairing defenseman at the NHL level and a top pairing defenseman at the AHL level.  Kevin LeBlanc

February, 2012 – Biega, a native of Montreal, is currently patrolling the blue line for Harvard, where he has produced a total of 69 points in 95 collegiate games as of this writing. He is a smooth-skating, two-way defender with good hockey sense.

 

 

Fantasy Outlook: C-

 

Likely will see some NHL time in the future, but will lack fantasy production.
