September 2017 - After hinting towards an upward trajectory in his first full season with the Crunch, Ben Thomas has come to Lightning camp with something to prove to the club. His training camp thus far has been impressive, and although it is a foregone conclusion that Thomas will be returned to Syracuse this season, he is certainly making a case to be at the top of the list for emergency recalls. Thomas isn't an offensive juggernaut by any stretch of the imagination, and does not project to become one as he develops into a potential NHL player. He remains to be best suited as a top-6 shut down defender who will be capable of eating up heavy minutes, and excelling on the penalty kill. Brayden Olafson

April 2017 – The right handed blueliner, Thomas had an outstanding rookie season for the Crunch in the AHL. He was rewarded upon conclusion of the regular season with the Crunch's Brightest Prospect (Rookie of the Year Award). With Tampa's depth on the back end, Thomas will have to continue to impress and surprise in order to stay competitive with his peers. This accolade could indicate that Thomas should begin to see additional time on ice in multiple situations allowing him to truly develop a more mature game. Brayden Olafson

August 2016 – Ben Thomas will be starting his first full AHL season this year after a rather impressive 8-game stint last year. Thomas has brought his two-way game into play more, but is still lackluster in his own end. Thomas will be lucky if he sees NHL games this year, but will most likely play a full AHL season. Fantasy Outlook:  C-

Thomas will need to improve decision making when under pressure and defensive setup in order to see NHL time.
