Observations:

June 2016 – Pittsburgh did not tender a qualifying offer to Zlobin. Mark Allan

June 2016 – Having played most of the season in the ECHL and having reached the end of his contract, the Russian winger faces the prospect of having to try to catch on with another organization as an RFA. Modestly accumulating 10 goals and 13 assists in 41 games with the Wheeling Nailers, Zlobin added five more points in 12 AHL games. Pittsburgh might give him another chance because he has puck-handling and goal-scoring skill to go with a defensive conscience, but injuries are becoming a concern during the grueling North American season. Mark Allan

November 2015 – Zlobin has added mass to his formerly slight frame but, with five assists in nine games for the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, he is two levels removed from the NHL. His North American pro career is clearly not going the way he hoped it would when he emigrated from Russia. Mark Allan

August 2015 – Pointless in six AHL games in a return from season-ending surgery, Zlobin will try to show what he can do in a full season. Mark Allan

February 2015 – The Moscow native is slowly playing his way back into shape in the AHL after season-ending lower-body surgery in December 2014. The smallish winger is pointless after six games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with an uncharacteristically low minus-1 rating. Avoiding injuries is crucial to any NHL aspirations. Mark Allan

April, 2014 – Anton Zlobin had a solid rookie year, splitting his time between Wilkes-Barre Scranton and the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers. Zlobin recently scored an OT game winning goal for the WBS Penguins in their first game of the playoffs. In the regular season for WBS, Anton only had 19 points in 46 games. Those point totals might seem unspectacular, but he was mostly playing in the bottom-six in a defensive role. He was an impressive plus-15 on the season as well. Seth Brisendine

February 2013 – Anton Zlobin was honoured as the QMJHL's Second Star of the Week (ending February 17th) after posting a trio of goals and 12 points in four weekly games.  Brendan Ross

February 2013 – Zlobin has taken the next step after last year’s 76 points in 66 games. He currently has 75 points in just 50 games. – Eric Daoust

November 2012 – Zlobin obtained 2 points or more in 6 out of the last 9 games of the Foreurs. Tonight, he aims at an 11th straight game with at least one point. He has 25 points in 17 games this year. Eric Daoust

October 2012 – Anton Zlobin was named to the 2012 Subway Super Series Team Russia Roster slated to compete in a six-game series against the Canadian Hockey League all-star teams from the QMJHL, OHL and WHL in November. Brendan Ross

October 2012   Now with Val d’Or, Anton Zlobin has six goals and 10 points in 10 games to start the 2012-13 season. Eric Dauost

August 2012 – Anton Zlobin is a highly-talented Russian player who was recently drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins after being passed over in the 2011 draft.  The reasons for being snubbed a year earlier are evident: the KHL factor, lack of size and strength, below-average skating and poor defensive zone play.  This past season, however, saw Zlobin post excellent numbers for Shawinigan of the QMJHL, lighting the lamp 40 times (fifth in the league) and adding 36 assists in 66 games.  The talent is there, but the holes in his game will likely hold him back when it is all said and done.  However, in deep leagues he is worth a look because if he can put it together he has enough offensive game to potentially make it as a top-six winger.

Fantasy Outlook: D

Good upside, but a longshot who falls into the boom/bust category.
