March 2018 - Once thought of as a sleeper selection in the 2017 Entry Draft, Lipanov has had an extremely disappointing season in the OHL, more-so since being traded from the Barrie Colts to the Sudbury Wolves in January. Since being traded, Lipanov has posted only a trio of goals, as well as assists in his first 17 games with the Wolves, hardly justifying what we would expect in a D+1 season for a "scoring" third-round pick. Besides struggling offensively, Lipanov was handed a major suspension in February (5 games) under the leagues harassment and diversity policy. While we can all appreciate that the trade may have been unsettling for the young Lipanov, his severe lack of production since is certainly a cause for concert as a fantasy owner. Brayden Olafson

December 2017 - Alexei Lipanov has been named to Russia’s preliminary roster for the 2018 World Junior Championship. Along with Barrie linemate and 2018 draft top prospect, Andrei Scechnikov, Lipanov will compete for a spot on the final roster that will kick off the tournament December 26th against the Czechs. The Moscow native’s first season in North America has been mostly successful alongside the top prospect, Svechnikov, as they help the Colts push to the top of their division. Brayden Olafson

September 2017 – As per Capfriendly, Alexey Lipanov has signed an entry level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lipanov was reassigned to his new junior team in Barrie last week where he's had early success with fellow Russian line-mate and 2018 draft-eligible prospect, Andrei Svechnikov. The two are familiar line-mates as they've played in international competition together several times before. Lipanov was able to hang, offensively, with most of the Lightning top-prospects during training camp, but will utilize his time in Barrie to adjust to the North American style of play and physicality. September 2017 – In the third round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Al Murray continues to pad the depth of centers in the Lightning organization by selecting Alexei Lipanov in his first year of draft eligibility. Lipanov is a playmaking center with a significant ceiling, especially for his draft position. The 17-year-old will join the Barrie Colts of the OHL this season, where the Lightning development staff will be able to get a second perspective on the center in a peer-peer matchup. All Murray called Lipanov “One of the top players on the Russian ’99 team.” Which is certainly true, as the center was able to tally eight points in a 21-game stint with Dynamo Balashikha of the VHL. The Russian is skilled and skates very well, which will give him the opportunity to be a force with the Colts this season.

Al Murray indicated that Lipanov would be present at Lightning development camp which begins on June 27th in Brandon, FL.

Fantasy Outlook: B-
