Observations:

 

October 2014 – Stalock was given the home opener even after Niemi started the season with a shutout earlier in the week so he had time to rest, but this is the most drastic change the Sharks have made.  They want to give Stalock time.  He rewarded them with a shutout win over Winnipeg.  This will be quite the year as Niemi is fighting for a new contract.  There is a very strong possibility that Stalock will be the number one starter once the trade deadline comes and goes.  Tim Graveline

 

January 2014 – Stalock took over Evegni Nabokov’s Sharks franchise record for longest shutout streak (178 minutes and 55 seconds). He has been turning heads and if he continues to play well, he might just work himself into a goaltending controversy, which can only be good for him. Tim Graveline

October 2013 – Stalock has been riding the pine while Harri Sateri has been getting plenty of work in Worcester.  For all intents and purposes, Stalock won the backup gig for now.  Though there has been talk of Sateri and Stalock will switch places during the season to allow them to stay fresh.  So far Stalock has not been given a start, but as the Sharks build more and more wins, they’ll give Niemi a night off soon and Stalock will finally have a chance to shine.  Hopefully, he makes the best of it and earns more confidence from Coach McLellan. Tim Graveline

 

September 2013 – News coming just prior to the Sharks training camp is that the position of backup goalie to Niemi is not Stalocks outright, but in fact going to be decided by the battle between Harri Sateri and Alex Stalock.  Sateri proved he was worth keeping as the Sharks re-signed him for another year, as they did with Stalock also.  This does come as a surprise as most feel this is Stalock’s position to lose, but there could be a chance that they would rather have Stalock receiving more starts in the AHL and let Sateri ride the pine.  This is going to be one of the more interesting backup battles as both goalies are both talented.  While Stalock has dealt with injuries and some inconsistency due to said injuries, Sateri has proved over and over again that he can take the reins when given quality starts. Tim Graveline

 

July 2013 – Alex Stalock has re-signed with the San Jose Sharks.  He is most likely going to be Niemi’s backup since Greiss has signed in Phoenix. His value increases because he has been heralded as a potential starter but injuries have slowed down his progress in the past seasons. All it takes is a random injury to Niemi and he could be the next starter produced from the San Jose assembly line. Tim Graveline

March 2013 – Stalock had a rough start to the year, but that was to be expected coming back from an injury riddled season. He has righted the ship, however, and carries very respectable numbers. Enough so that it would not be surprising if the Sharks let Greiss walk in the off-season and move up their entire depth chart, which would give Stalock the backup job and his best opportunity, yet. September 2012 – Stalock is a talented, athletic goalie with a bit of an unorthodox style. Not a true hybrid style, but will throw his body around and make acrobatic saves. He plays angles well, is very quick and is an excellent puck-handler. The former University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldog was a big part of their National Championship team in 2009 to cap off an excellent collegiate career. His pro career got off to a fine start, making the AHL All-Rookie team and making his NHL debut before suffering a serious tendon injury that caused him to miss most of last year.  Possibly a make or break season for Stalock as he battles Harri Sateri for playing time in Worchester.
