For the first time since the early 2010s, the Blues have missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons, but this year brings new hope. Let’s take a look at some prospects who embody that hope.

Graduating Players

Simon Robertsson, RW

After playing in the SHL for the last five seasons, Robertsson is finally coming to North America this year. He’ll probably start in the AHL, but could get a chance in the NHL depending on how things go.

*

Michael Buchinger, D

Following 158 points in 176 games with Guelph in the OHL, Buchinger, an offensive defenseman, is set to make the jump to the pros this season.

*

Dylan Peterson, C

Peterson finally finished his run with Boston University last year. We briefly saw him play three games in the AHL at the end of the season, but this year will mark his official jump to pro hockey.

Risers

Dalibor Dvorský, C

Before his draft, Dvorsky proved to be a reliable two-way center wherever he played, but he hadn’t quite shown he could be a dominant offensive force. That changed last season when he played in the OHL against players his own age, where he completely dominated all aspects of the game. This bodes well for his future.

*

Colin Ralph

In roughly the same number of games with Shattuck St. Mary’s 18U Prep, Ralph nearly doubled his point total, going from 35 points in 54 games to 66 in 57 games. These are incredible numbers, especially considering Ralph is a defenseman, not a forward. This had a major impact on his draft ranking in the 2024 draft.

***

Fallers

Jimmy Snuggerud, RW

Last season certainly did not live up to expectations for the Blues’ top prospect. Snuggerud took a step back at the University of Minnesota, and while there are still high hopes for him, a lot of pressure will be on him to return to the dominant form he showed in the previous season.

*

Mathias Laferriere, RW

Last season was more of the same for Laferriere, and while consistency can be a good thing in some cases, it’s becoming a significant concern for him. If he can’t start improving in the AHL, he’ll continue to slide down the Blues’ depth chart until he’s no longer on it.
