23. New York Rangers – 66.5
Last Season Rank: 26
Top 15 Prospects
Individual Breakdown:
The Rangers selected Gabe Perrault 23 rd overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, a pick already looking like a steal; in 34 games with Boston College in 2023-24, he had 57 points (18 goals and 34 assists). The only other 2023 draft pick to crack the top 15 is Drew Fortescue (3 rd round, 90 th overall) at #14. As we can see from the DobberProspects rankings team after New York’s top four prospects (Gabe Perreault, Brennan Othmann, Will Cuylle and Adam Sykora), the uncertainty regarding the Rangers prospects for fantasy hockey purposes starts. While a player like Zac Jones could become a good NHL player, his style of play may not transition to your fantasy hockey team and make him a reliable fantasy option. New York has shown patience and a willingness to get their prospects into their NHL lineups in recent seasons, 2020 2 nd round pick Will Cuylle is the most recent prospect making the 2023-24 opening night roster and has played 76 games with the Rangers this season and has shown that he could become an all categories contributor in fantasy, he has scored 13 goals, added eight assists with 111 SOG, 54 PIM, 241 hits and 25 blocks, and for salary cap leagues he has a $828,333 cap hit for one more season in 2024-25 before he needs a new contract. Brennan Othmann played in three NHL games during the 2023-23 campaign; Zac Jones has played in 30 games at the NHL level this season, contributing two goals, seven assists with 20 hits and 22 blocks.
Prospects to Watch:
Adam Sykora (4)—As a rookie, he scored 21 points (seven goals and 14 assists) in 60 games in the AHL in 2023-24. His Fantrax ownership should increase to 5%. He needs more time in the minors.
Dylan Garand (6)—With Jonathan Quick signing a one-year, $1.275 million extension on March 3, 2024, Garand’s chance of becoming Igor Shesterkin's backup will likely have to wait until the 2025-26 season. In 37 games with the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack, he has a 16-15 record with a 3.00 GAA and .900 SV%.
Adam Edstrom (11) – He played 11 games with the Rangers in 2023-24; he doesn’t provide much offensively but can contribute to the hits category.
Matt Rempe (NR)—If you’re in a league that values hits and PIM, look no further—Matt Rempe is your guy!
Team Overview:
The New York Rangers are ranked 24th on DobberProspects 2024 Organizational Rankings, slightly increasing from 26th in 2023. The Rangers are a team in the mix for the NHL’s 2024 Presidents Trophy, and with sustained success, they will need to rely on their late-round draft selections and free-agent prospect signings to build up their prospect pool. The New York Rangers don’t provide much value outside of their top three prospects in dynasty leagues; even in deep fantasy leagues, there isn't much value after their top six ranked prospects.
