Prospect Ramblings – Random 2019-2020 Thoughts

Welcome to the Thursday ramblings. I am in a state of “I have no idea what to write about” and have been like that for a few days, so I decided I will just give some random thoughts. These ramblings might not be very long but hopefully I can spout off something helpful.

Have you checked these out:

The 31-in-31 team run through for August has begun, you can find the July 31-in-31 in there as well in case you have missed any: https://dobberprospects.com/Table/feature/31-in-31-series/

Check out Hayden’s Prospect Ramblings where he gives a Fantasy Hockey Guide sneak peek: https://dobberprospects.com/prospect-ramblings-fantasy-hockey-guide-sneak-peek/

Speaking of that have you picked up the Dobber Guide that gets updated up until the start of the NHL season? I have used this guide to win multiple pools (but not Yahoo because I have the worst luck on that platform). Buy it here: https://dobbersports.com/product/dobbers-2019-20-fantasy-hockey-guide/

An aside from that! Did you get the DobberProspects guide from earlier this year!? Do it: https://dobbersports.com/product/dobbers-2019-fantasy-hockey-prospects-report/

Also a new version of the Dobber Prospects Radio popped yesterday about “Waiver Exempt Prospects, WJSS, Glinka-Gretzky standouts and Interviews from the Draft”, did you listen? https://dobberprospects.com/dpr-episode-60-waiver-exempt-prospects-wjss-glinka-gretzky-standouts-and-interviews-from-the-draft/

Here is the Bob McKenzie episode too: https://dobberprospects.com/dpr-episode-59-so-you-want-to-be-a-scout-my-fantasy-draft-ncaa-and-europe-players-to-draft-and-bob-mckenzie/

Make sure to listen to the DPR show, Peter Harling puts a ton of work in to them!

Alright after that list of advertisements it now it is time for my random thoughts:

Jesse Granger (@JesseGranger_) who covers Vegas for The Athletic expects Cody Glass to start the season on line four between Ryan Reaves and Tomas Nosek, and all I can say to that is “Please little baby Jesus, do not let this happen.”

Cody Eakin is projected to play between Alex Tuch and Brandon Pirri. I sit there and look and this projected list and say wonder why NHL coaches start prized rookies between players who cannot score. If Glass starts on line four I expect him to be scratched often and later sent to the AHL. If the team is smart they will start him between Pirri and Tuch as a sheltered third line… which would almost be as good as a Nikita Gusev-Cody Glass-Alex Tuch third line… Sorry Vegas fans, I am disappointed the G. Knights did not keep him either but as a Devils fan I am ecstatic!

If Glass starts on line four I would guess: 18 GP 2G-3A-5P for the season

If Glass starts on the third line I would guess: 70GP 12G-20A-32P for the season

Andrei Svechnikov will score 30+ goals next year as Brind’Amour will finally put him on the first powerplay

Here is my 2019-2020 hope for Kevin Fiala: 25G-32A-57P

I think it can happen because Boudreau is one of the best NHL coaches and the Wild need him to produce as they moved him one-for-one for Granlund (who will see around 55 points in Nashville because offense seems to die there haha). Not to mention in the “Fenton was awful” Athletic article Russo said David Poile was duping Fenton in to giving up MORE than just Granlund for Fiala and almost got away with it. So it sounds like the Wild know Fiala is not as good but they now need him to be good.

Donato does not need to produce as much as Fiala, as he was just moved for Coyle. Donato will out produce Coyle for 2019-2020 easily.

Andrew Mangiapane and Austin Czarnik deserve more ice time in Calgary. I can see both being below Milan Lucic in average ice time because Bill Peters is not great at player deployment.

You can save this thought and make fun of me later but I really do not think Dylan Strome will get over 50 points in the upcoming season. I have never liked his skating but always thought he was a very smart player, so I could be wrong. In Chicago a 16.2% shooting percentage, 13.7% on ice shooting percentage, and having a 58% of his starts in the offensive zone, while also losing the possession battle, just screams that he is overrated and will come crashing down in the season to me.

There is one way he can have awful metrics and get over 50 points: First powerplay ice time while being attached at the hip to Patrick Kane

In Colorado Andre Burakovsky will put up (at minimum) 0.5 points per game. Hopefully he can string together a healthy season first, but I really think with 15+ minutes a night Burakovsky can produce decent numbers, he just needs to gain a “shoot first “ mentality.
