Observations:
June 2018 – This was the first time Nosek played the entire season in the NHL and did not spend time in the minors. He was able to suit up for 67 games with the Golden Knights and accumulated seven goals and eight assists primarily in a 4th-line role. His responsibility increased in the 17 playoff games he played in, and he earned six more points as he developed chemistry with his line-mates as the playoffs wore on. It doesn’t look like he’ll ever earn a role more than a bottom-six forward but looks to be a key component in the real world as opposed to fantasy circles. Mason Black
June 2017 – The Vegas Golden Knights have selected Tomas Nosek in the Expansion Draft. Paul Zwambag
July 2016 – The Red Wings are buying their time with Grand Rapids Griffin’s left winger Tomas Nosek. The 23-year-old was rewarded with a two-year contract extension worth $1.2 Million this spring and will continue to develop with the Griffin’s next season. With many other forward prospects ahead of him on the AHL depth chart like Evgeny Svechnikov and Tyler Bertuzzi, he’ll be hard pressed to earn a call up from the Red Wing’s. He had a six game stint with the big club last season but will have to really impress again in the minors to obtain another shot with the Wings. Joseph Highgate
March 2015 – Tomas Nosek has put up identical numbers to date (8G-17A-25PTS) with Marek Tvrdon, who was a 2011 fourth round pick for the Red Wings. His numbers are quite comparable to fellow rookies- Andreas Athanasiou, Anthony Mantha and Mark Zengerle who is the current leader of the first year players at 31 points. At nearly a point every two games Nosek’s first season is North America has to be viewed as success as the Griffins currently occupy the division crown and look well on their way to clinching a playoff berth as one of the favourites to go on a deep Calder Cup run. Especially if the likes of Petr Mrazek and Teemu Pulkkinen are returned. Nosek has a good blend of size and skill and seems best suited for a bottom six role in Detroit with a two year wait for a potential full-time role. More valuable in multi-cat leagues and firmly off the radar for now behind a deep prospect laiden system. Travis Watson
August 2014 –Tomas Nosek enjoyed a breakout campaign in his third season with his hometown team, HC Pardubice of the Czech Extraliga in 2014. He ended the year as the teams top scorer despite being the youngest regular on the team and finished as the ninth highest scorer in the entire league with 44 points in 52 games. He smashed his previous career high by 30 points besting his goal total by 14(5-19), assists by 16(9-25) and finished with a plus-17 rating which was top 20 in the league. His season caught the eye of the Red Wings and they jumped at the opportunity to sign the young Czech who had multiple teams after his services. It may have helped that Jiri Fischer the Red Wings director of player development was one of Nosek’s assistant coaches on the 2012 World Junior team so the familiarity to him could’ve helped aide his decision. Nosek brings a nice complement of size and skill to an organization that needs it to battle the Boston’s and Pittsburgh’s of the East and in time could be talked about as another coup by Detroit’s scouting staff. This signing also helps ease the pain of losing the talented Calle Jarnkrok as well as their 2014 second round draft pick which were both shipped to Nashville at the deadline for David Legwand. With 14 forwards already signed look for him to start his North American career with Grand Rapids where he will have plenty of time and opportunity to develop.
He will continue to develop his two-way game in the AHL with the Griffins. Nosek projects to be more of a complementary scorer with the potential to hit 50 points down the road.
