Observations:
April 2018 – He gave us worries early on but Nemeth stayed relatively healthy in 2017-18, finishing with 68 games played. He was a hits and blocks machine in the regular season, and was leaned upon heavily in the playoffs as injuries struck the defense and he ended up leading the team in TOI. He has clearly become a trusted part of the blueline and should remain a second- or third-pairing stalwart. He was invited play for Sweden in the World Championships after Colorado was eliminated, but he instead required surgery on an undisclosed injury he suffered in the playoffs. Hayden Soboleski
October 2017 – Nemeth is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, just after being cleared after aggrevating his shoulder in a fight last week. His physicality is a big part of his success as a player but he needs to be careful not to land on the IR. He has suited up for all seven Avs games since being claimed off waivers and has even pitched in three assists in that time. He seems to be a good fit and has out-battled others for that consistant third-pairing spot. Hayden Soboleski
October 2017 – Nemeth has been claimed off waivers by the Colorado Avalanche. He will immediately slide into their NHL 3rd-pair/7th defence rotation, much like hewas in Dallas. With strong play he will be able to lock down a regular spot, but he will have competition also fit for the spot. His fantasy value does not increase or decrease, since he always projected to be a bottom-pairing guy only valuable for hits and blocks, and his likely worse plus-minus will be the price to pay for a better chance at a full-time spot. Hayden Soboleski
September 2016 – Nemeth has bounced between the AHL and NHL over the last few seasons, and this season will likely be no different. The Stars simply have too many great defensive prospects for Nemeth to just be given a starting role. He’ll really have to impress in camp to get a permanent role to begin the season. If with increased NHL ice time, Nemeth doesn’t generate much in the way of fantasy value. He’s mostlyplaced in a shutdown defender role that adds little offensive production. Nemeth will be 26 years old during the season, and shouldn’t be on any fantasy teams radar. Matt Kowalski
March 2016 – Nemeth is having a career year to the tune of six assists in 28 games. John Klingberg he ain't. A big bodied, shutdown defensive defensemen, has no value in points only leagues but has marginal value in any league that counts blocked shot and hits. But with a number of defensive prospects knocking on the door, Nemeth will have a tough time getting regular playing time going forward. Brad Phillips
October 2014 – The worst case scenario sadly is exactly what has occurred. Patrik Nemeth will miss the remainder of the regular season due to the injury suffered against Philly. Nemeth underwent surgery to repair the damage to his wrist. Coach Lindy Ruff said the damage from the skate was significant. This is clearly a major blow for Nemeth in his development. Hopefully he can make a full recovery and pick up where he left off as he was making a good showing for the Stars. Rex Doty
October 2014 – Patrik Nemeth suffered a serious laceration to his right wrist after taking a errant skate blade from R.J. Umberger in the opening minute of the game against the Flyers on Oct. 18th. Nemeth has been skating with Kevin Connauton on the third D pairing and averaging just over 14 minutes a game. While he hasn't notched a point yet, Nemeth has made a good showing for himself on defense and has played in all five games for the Stars to open the season. Lindy Ruff has said Nemeth will be out "for a good period of time". Depending on the degree of damage done this could be measured in months not weeks. Rex Doty
October 2014 – Patrik Nemeth has made the opening night roster for the Dallas Stars. Nemeth split time between the Texas Stars (37 games, three goals, seven assists, plus-19) and Dallas Stars (eight games, zero points, minus-3) in 2013-14. Nemeth brings a sound defensive game to a porous Dallas blueline that sorely needs the help plugging the holes. The Stars will open the season with eight defensemen on the roster, including Sergei Gonchar who is out for an undisclosed amount of time with an ankle injury. With the vet out, Nemeth and the other young defensemen will have a golden opportunity to stake their claim should GM Jim Nill decide later to trim the D roster down to seven. Rex Doty
Fantasy Outlook: D+
Nemeth is a prototype defensive defenseman, but may also have some untapped offensive potential. His sound defense will help him earn ice time to produce good hits and blocked shot numbers.
