Observations:
July 2017 – Cousins has agreed to a two-year extension with the Coyotes at $1M per year. He should provide sorely needed forward depth for an Arizona franchise on the rise. Kevin Wickersham
June 2017- Cousins has been dealt to the Arizona Coyotes along with goalie prospect Merrick Madsen for forward prospect Brendan Warren and a 2018 fifth-round pick. Cousins had just finished his third season in the Flyers organization, scoring six goals and 16 points in 60 games for Philadelphia. A restricted free agent heading into this offseason, he has enough games played to be exposed in the Vegas Expansion Draft and at the moment that would seem the main purpose for this deal. However, the Coyotes seem to be at the moment committed to signing Cousins and protecting him. Coyotes General Manager John Chayka on Cousins: “He’s a tenacious, versatile, two-way center who will add grit and energy to our lineup. We’re excited to have him”. Keith Duggan
March 2017 – After returning from being healthy scratched, Nick Cousins is indisposed for the time being due to an upper-body injury. He is considered day-to-day and should be back in action shortly. Edric Joseph
February 2017 – After showing some life in games against the Flames and Oilers, Cousins has seemingly come back down to Earth with his offensive assertiveness. Still makes for a decent play for PIMs, so as long as you can handle his plus/minus issues. Edric Joseph
November 2016 – Nick Cousins had his second tally of the season in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators. He’s playing more like he belongs in the Flyers’ bottom-six when he hops over the boards however he can be watch listed in deep leagues for the time being as he is being played sparingly. Edric Joseph
March 2016 – After producing 38 points through 38 games with the AHL Phantoms, Cousins was called up to the NHL and has not looked out of place with the Flyers. He has a modest seven points through 20 games while playing in a bottom-six capacity role. He has shown a mature and responsible game with his plus-6, which is likely a key reason they have been able to retain him at the NHL level while vying for a playoff position. Lee Rayson
March 2015 – After announcing that forward R.J. Umberger would miss the rest of the season with abdominal/hip surgery, the Flyers recalled Nick Cousins to fill the void. Cousins was leading the AHL’s Phantoms in scoring with 21 goals and 34 assists at the time of his promotion. He has now shown flashes of brilliance in the OHL (Sault Ste. Marie) and AHL (Adirondack/Lehigh Valley). Will he continue at the NHL level in his 14-game audition to finish out the 2014-15 campaign? A positive debut and trial could help to cement his place in orange and black and put an end to the Jeff Carter trade saga three and a half years later. Zach Hopkins
February 2015 – Cousins has been named the AHL’s Player of the Month for January after posting 17 points in 13 contests. The second-year pro is leading the AHL’s Phantoms in scoring with 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points in 47 games. Cousins is showing the scoring touch that turned heads during his final year in junior hockey in which he recorded 103 points for Sault Ste. Marie of the OHL. With Cousins finally displaying the skill that is expected of him on a nightly basis, most critics can agree that the Flyers ‘won’ the Jeff Carter to Columbus trade in the 2011 offseason as Cousins was a crucial draft pick aquired along with Jake Voracek and the first-round pick that ended up being Sean Couturier. Zach Hopkins
February 2013 – Cousins has been suspended four games for a checking from behind incident that took place Saturday, February 23rd versus the London Knights. Cousins remains the leading scorer in the OHL but by only one point over Charlie Sarault so this suspension will affect his chances at winning the scoring title. Brendan Ross
February 2013 – Nick Cousins has been named the OHL Player of the Week (ending February 17th) after racking up nine points in just two games. Cousins posted a four assist game and followed that up with a five-point performance finishing the week with a healthy plus-4 rating. Cousins is a skilled agitating forward that should be owned in all keeper leagues with prospect spots with his ability to rack up points and penalty minutes. He is also priviledged to be in the fairly shallow prospect pool of the Philadelphia Flyers so his wait shouldn’t be too long. Brendan Ross
February 2013 – Seems to be a coaching change was just what the doctor ordered for the Greyhounds. Team seems to be playing with much more passion for coach Sheldon Keefe and leading the way not only for the club lead in scoring but for the entire league to date Cousins has amassed 93 points. Currently Cousins is riding an eight game point streak where he has put up four goals and 16 assists. If he can keep his character issues in check he could have a bright future. Travis Watson
August 2012 – Cousins was charged with sexual assault in Sault Ste. Marie. Players have bounced back fromt his stuff, but other players have not. It certainly doesn’t help though. Dobber
April 2012 – If there is any system in the league that Nick Cousins can successfully model his game after, it is the Philadelphia Flyers. After wrapping up an impressive third campaign in the OHL, netting 88 points in 65 games with 88 PIM, Nick signed a three-year contract with the club. Given his size, Cousins plays a tough, competitive and complete game. While he is feisty and hard to get off of the puck, Cousins will need to bulk up in order to be physically ready to play in the NHL. Gates Imbeau
Fantasy Outlook: C+
Cousins has a modest upside. Will need time to develop and must overcome his lack of size.
