Observations:
March 2015 – Known as a physical, stay-at-home defenseman, Donnay is currently finishing his overage season in the OHL. The Rangers sent him back to Erie in October because he was not ready for the AHL. The hulking defenseman has added some offense to his game this season posting four goals and 23 points in 45 games – an improvement over his 2013-14 production. Erie is a powerhouse with McDavid and Strome on board, so Donnay’s numbers are not necessarily what you expect from a veteran defenseman. He gained lot of strength over last summer adding to his formerly skinny frame, but he needs to work hard on his skating as it is not at AHL calibre yet. Donnay was held out for multiple weeks during the fall because of a lower body injury and recently has been suspended for ten games by the OHL as a result of a checking to the head penalty. Next year most likely he will play for the Hartford Wolf Pack but the ECHL is not of question either. Jozsef Kurtosi
March 2014 – The undrafted 19 year old Donnay took part in the Rangers prospect camp last summer and impressed the Rangers brass with his size and toughness. In August, the Rangers signed him to an entry-level contract. Minnesota native Donnay is currently playing his fourth year in the OHL. He is one of the most improved player from the Otters. He is big, strong, and his skating has improved over the past few years. Next year he will be eligible for professional hockey but it is still possible he spends an overage year in Erie. Fantasy Outlook: D-
Donnay is a prototypical defensive defenseman, and never will be a point scoring machine at any level.
